Revlon One-Step Hair Tool Review

revlon one step review

As I take more time out for myself everyday, I’ve started to put a lot more effort into how I look and how I feel when I look in the mirror. My hair can be a big pain for me because it frizzes in this Texas heat and then just kinda sits there. So I decided to try a different tool for styling my hair- the new Revlon One Step Hair Dryer and Volumizer Hot Brush (affiliate link)!

revlon one step hair dryer reviewSo let me first say that yes, I realize there is hair in my brush and this is actually my least favorite part of the styling tool- you can’t wash the brush part and pulling hair out of it is pretty difficult. Before I recommended the tool to you, I wanted to try it first, which means using the brush and getting my long locks in it. Sorry!

Aside from the cleaning difficulties, I LOVE THIS HOT BRUSH. In the picture above, you can see that on the left side my hair is still wet and curly. The right side is how it looks after I’ve used the Revlon tool to brush and blow out my hair. Because my hair is so thick and and layered, I have to separate it and clip it on top of my head as I go to get the perfect blow out. I also use the John Freida Frizz-Ease Serum (affiliate link) and rub it through my hair before I begin drying. That helps a lot!

blown out hair at home

THE FINISHED PRODUCT! Seriously, it’s like getting a blow out at home for free! When I use normal blow dryers, it takes forever for it to dry and of course its a frizzy mess. This is a no-frizz solution that makes it look like I just left a salon. I highly recommend this tool. I know on Amazon there are quite a few different knock-offs so be wary of that as you shop! Enjoy!

How to Use a Curling Wand Feat. PYT

pyt pink curling wand

Hey everyone! I’ve been loving this spring weather recently and am getting out of my hibernation mode after 3 long months. Every time the sun comes out and I can throw my windows open I feel this little part of me come alive and I just want to do my make up and hair and feel lovely again!

I’ve been trying harder to get into the habit of doing my hair every day for work and not just letting it go natural. I partnered with PYT (Pretty Young Thing) to show you how I’m using this super cute pink curling wand to do my hair! I had never used a curling wand before but now I’m hooked! It’s way easier than I thought and I finally know how all the gorgeous Dallas girls get their big hair and soft curls! Here’s how I did it! (Also use code LIZ40 to get 40% off your order for a limited time!)

Before I started curling my hair!

Step 1: Protect your hair

Before I begin curling my hair, I use PYT’s Selfie Ready Gloss Serum. This adds a lot of shine to my hair and also protects it from heat damage. A little goes a long way! Make sure you really get it on the ends of your hair for best results.

step 2: Separate hair sections

There are many ways to do this, but my favorite way is the pull most of my hair up into a bun so I can work on my base layer. I have pretty thick hair, so this helps a lot! After you’ve finished with the base layer,  let a bit more hair down and curl that next.

Step 3: Start curling

Grab a piece of hair and slowly (and very carefully) wrap it around the barrel of the curling wand. You can use the heat resistant glove that PYT provides with the wand, but I found it easier to ditch the glove and take my chances. I didn’t get burned if you were wondering!

Hold your hair there for 5 or 6 seconds (more or less depending on how thick your hair is) and then slowly let it go. BOOM! A gorgeous curl. Now it may take you awhile to get the hang of it and some pieces may not come out perfectly, so when you’ve finished curling just go back through and curl the stubborn pieces.

Step 4: Wear it Everywhere!

This hairstyle literally gets better the longer you have it. After a few hours, my hair was so smooth and healthy looking! I did this on a Saturday (whence my athleisure wear) and it stayed gorgeous until Monday when I finally had to wash it. I really can’t recommend this wand enough!

Beauty Products I’m Loving Right Now

It’s been awhile since I blogged about my favorite beauty products, so I figured I needed to share an update with what I’ve been using! With everything I buy and share with you guys, I have to love it and it has to be affordable. I use a mix of drugstore and high end brands to get my look. I always go pretty natural as well! I don’t like the feeling of wearing pounds of makeup, its just not comfortable and I don’t have time to put it on in the morning!

loreal highlighter

So excuse my leftover glitter nail polish. I totally forgot to take that off. But right now my favorite highlighter is the Infalllible Highlighter Stick by Loreal. It’s easy to put on and offers a soft glow that looks natural! I was at Ulta the other day and found it on clearance for only $1.50!

eyeshadow palette

So this is an Ulta brand eyeshadow palette. I literally can’t find it on their website but I really like it! I found it also on clearance for 50 cents! The pinks are just so pretty for spring!

pillow lip plumper

Soap and Glory has tons of great products that I use all the time, but my newest favorite is their Pillow Plump XXL! This lip plumper is really good. It’s not long lasting, so that’s a bummer, but I just keep reapplying. I got the clear version so I could wear it underneath other lip glosses. It feels funny after you’ve put it on, lots of lip tingling!

maybelline eyeliner

I’m loving this liquid eyeliner from Maybelline! Its called the MasterPrecise Ink in Stellar Sand! I’m not very good with liquid eyeliner usually but this one wasn’t too hard to put on. The shimmer is really pretty without being too much.

Makeup and I have a long way to go before I’ll consider myself a beauty guru, but these are a few affordable favorites of mine!

Review of the New Shopping App Tophatter

gold iphone charger

Hey gals! I hope those of you in the north east are staying warm during your blizzard up there. I’m in Dallas so I’m a little bit jealous of your snow storm. If you are stuck at home and can’t get out, now is the perfect time to do a little online shopping through some of the best new shopping apps out there. I recently got to try out Tophatter, it’s a shopping app like eBay but auctions are held live so there’s no waiting around for the auction to end. The items I bid on were a steal and surprisingly high quality!

Best Shopping Apps

One of the first things I wanted to try from this shopping app was their makeup. While Tophatter isn’t a makeup shopping app, they do live auction name brand makeup. I bid on Bare Minerals Original Foundation Click Lock & Go Sifter and LORAC Limited Edition Pink Champagne palette. Like I said before, I was skeptical of these products when I bought them as they only cost me about $11 each but upon receiving them, I was pleasantly surprised. They arrived quickly and in good condition. As long as the items are authentic, I think Tophatter has the potential to be one of best shopping apps.

The last thing I bought was this 10 ft. iPhone charging cable in rose gold. My cat Petunia chewed through my old charger and since I didn’t want either of us to be electrocuted, I bought a new one on Tophatter. Most of the time Apple products won’t work with chargers that aren’t made by Apple. This one definitely charges my iPhone though! The cable is durable and came in a really great color too. Hopefully Petunia won’t be chewing through this anytime soon.

If you’d like to give this shopping app a try, use my referral code (link here) and get $10 off your first purchase! It’s a great way to test out the app and save some money on a product you’re interested in. Happy shopping!

Dallas Fashion Designers at FGI Rising Star Event

rising star awards

Hey fashion lovers! I’m so excited to share with you the amazing experience I had the other night attending Fashion Group International’s Dallas Rising Star of 2017 event! My good friend Laila invited me to the fashion show and I couldn’t be more thankful! Let me be totally honest here, I had never been to a real fashion show and had no idea what to expect. I’m a wannabe fashion blogger in Dallas with no experience in the fashion industry beyond what I’ve taught myself and learned from other bloggers. This experience reignited my love of fashion blogging and I’m so excited to share my night with you!

Dallas couture fashion

Ok first of all, I thought I had pretty good taste in clothing and fashion but FGI Rising Star event proved me wrong. When I left my apartment for the evening, I was pretty convinced my Donna Karan 2013 little red dress was the perfect ensemble for the event. Upon walking into the event space in the Dallas Galleria, I was immediately shocked by the couture, high fashion styles worn by other attendees. Dallas fashion is so much more than cowboy boots and jeans! You know when you look at someone and just know that their outfit is worth more than your car? That was pretty much everyone in the room. Except for me. Like I said, Donna Karan 2013 (that I got at an outlet).

The actual fashion shows were amazing. My favorite Dallas designer’s fashions was hands down Esé Azénabor’s collection. Everything had structure and clear purpose to it. I found myself about jumping out of my seat to get a good photo of each design that came down the runway. There was so much creative talent in one room it was absolutely wonderful to be apart of it!

Attending this event taught me so much about the fashion world that I didn’t know before. The styles on the runway aren’t necessarily meant to be worn but meant to showcase the art and thought that goes into making an outfit glamorous. So a big thank you to Fashion Group International of Dallas for putting on such a great event!

I honestly have so many more photos to share with you but these were the best ones I could get on my good ol’ iPhone 6. I simply refused to be that person that brings a big Nikon camera with several lenses to get a few good shots. Besides, I don’t want to be black listed from other events! My fashion career would end before it really began. Who wants that when they’ve worked so hard?
