Valentino Rockstud Dupes on a Budget

rockstud dupesHey girls! Since I moved to Dallas, I’ve been exploring all the fun parts of the city and where all the best stores are. As you can imagine, this city is full of amazing shopping! I went shopping yesterday and noticed how many dupes there are for the Valentino “Rockstud” shoes and wanted to share a few of my favorites. Most of us are probably not in a position to spend $800 or more on a single pair of shoes. Finding lookalikes for my favorites is always exciting for me!

I noticed Nordstrom Rack has a great selection of Rockstud dupes (sometimes you can even find the real ones there for half off). Since the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is still going on, people are focusing more on that and not so much on the deals in their discount store. As a bargain hunter, I know that nothing in the sale is going to be near as inexpensive as N. Rack is. Skip the big “sale” and head to the clearance store to find the lookalikes at a better price!

For a slightly higher price tag, Sole Society has a great selection as well! The red kitten heels are on my wish list right now. Ever since I saw one of my former supervisors wearing a pair of red kitten heels I’ve wanted some! I rarely buy high heels because they hurt my feet and I’m a bit of a klutz. Seriously, I trip going up stairs! Let me tell you, that takes talent.

I’ve linked several dupes for you to take a look at. Hopefully one strikes your fancy!

Studded Sandals for Summer

Happy hump day pretty gal! I’m so excited that flip flop season is starting and I now have a reason to get a pedicure every once in awhile! Last week, I treated myself to one so I could show off my adorable new sandals I got for this summer. Obviously, I chose an obnoxiously bright color for my nails. You’re only young once, right?
valentino dupesI found these Valentino dupes at DSW two weeks ago and have been waiting for warmer weather to wear them. Earlier this year, I did a blog post on the stiletto version of these shoes and everyone seemed to like them! Today, I thought I’d share with you my fabulous find because I’m so proud of myself for getting them on clearance. The BCBGeneration Glorina Flat (link here!) is a great dupe for the Valentino Rockstud shoe. Online, this sandal is $49, but I found mine in-store on the clearance rack for $29! I was surprised at how comfy they were given that it has very little padding and let’s be real, it’s just a sandal. The color is perfect too because it goes with everything! If you have limited funds to invest in shoes, I always opt for a neutral color so I can wear it with more outfits.Leave me a comment with your favorite summer sandal!

Valentino “Rockstud” Dupe

Valentino Rockstud Dupe

Good morning lovelies! Today, I wanted to share with you a great find from DSW! The famous Valentino “Rockstud” heels are all over the blogging and fashion world for obvious reasons. Hello, they’re gorgeous! However, these beauties go for between $900 and $1200 a pair. Given mine and the average person’s budget, we would rather put that money towards normal things like paying down student loans or even the credit card. Rest assured, there is a marvelous dupe on the market of these gorgeous heels (and for much less).

You’ve Been Duped

BCBGeneration came out with a beautiful pair of “Rockstud” heels to compete with the Valentino pair. The best part is that DSW has them for about $70 and they come in several colors! The base color of the shoe is nude with gold studs but you can choose from red, pink, navy blue, black, white, and you guessed it, nude, as your accent color. Personally, I’d be going after those red ones because I have a collection of nude heels to rival Kate Middleton’s!

Knowing your budget and not exceeding it is so important for the money-conscious individual. Most of my favorite fashion bloggers have worn and promoted the Valentino version and make it seem like a “staple” in every woman’s wardrobe. It’s a great shoe but far from a staple. Remembering that these ladies are making money from doing promoted posts and getting free shoes at the same time allows me to realize that not having $1000 shoes in my closet is ok and, gasp, normal.┬áSure, I’d love to have them! We all would. However, until the time comes when I can safely afford them and not have to worry about paying them off, I’ll settle for the BCBG version. Frankly, I’m ok with that because I’m #blessed already.

Being Called ‘Basic’

It’s Friday and the only song I have going through my head is a throw back to 2010 when Rebecca Black made her debut as a singer. That song wasn’t the greatest thing but most of us couldn’t get it out of our heads. I guess she did her job well then.

Basic Girls

Recently, I’ve been doing my social media thing (Instagramming, hash tagging etc.) and have noticed that the tag ‘basic’ or more commonly tagged ‘basic b*tch’, is gaining traction. I’m not sure where the tag started or why it started but I do know this: it’s being used as an insult. On several occasions I have been referred to as ‘basic’ whether it be on Instagram, my friends joking around, or even in one case, on my own blog. The irony of this insult is that I don’t find it all that insulting and here’s why.

According to the Urban Dictionary (because Webster’s doesn’t know what I’m talking about), the term ‘basic’ is used for someone who is void of any interesting characteristics. You might say this person fulfills a stereotype. Take for example, me and the preppy/girly stereotype I resemble. I’m a middle-class, 20-something, white girl, who likes lattes, Taylor Swift, Kate Spade, Vineyard Vines, the color pink, and a fresh manicure. When someone calls me basic, I suppose they mean I’m not interesting. Ok, that’s fine. However, what if we applied the term ‘basic’ to everyone who fulfills a stereotype?

At the college I went to, we had Hipsters galore! What if I said that the stereotypical Hipster was basic? You know who I’m talking about- the type that wears the Waldo glasses, beanies, rides a long board, and listens to Indie music at a local coffee shop. Or what about people who identify their style as ’emo’ or ‘urban’? Can they be basic too?

What’s so bad about being a ‘basic’ girl? I like certain things and you like certain things, it doesn’t mean I don’t have a personality, it just means that on a surface level I have tastes that fall into a category in which other people who have similar tastes fall into as well. Obviously, looking at the surface only tells you so much about a person. Unfortunately, we stereotype because life doesn’t give us much time to dig deeper, but that’s ok. In my mind, I’m a girl who loves being girly and looking at pretty things. Does that really make me basic? If it does, then I’m fine with being called that. I am what I am and no hash tag can change that.

Color Blocking Trend

A trend I’m hoping to see for the summer months is color blocking! For those of you who don’t know what that is, it’s basically sectioning off different parts of your body with a distinct color. For example, the yellow top would section off your upper torso and chest while the skirt would section off your legs and hips.

This was popular last year and it was really flattering. I love bright colors for the summer months too. Obviously I’m a lover of anything pink so that will be one of the color blocks I go to quite often. I think royal blue, yellow, lime green, and citrus orange would be great choices to pair with it.

I tend to buy solid color items because they go with so many things. I’m overcoming my aversion to pattern and learning how to wear it. I can be a little ridiculous about wearing more than one pattern though. For whatever reason, that’s been popular recently. No one likes a floral print with zebra stripes. It’s hideous. Really hideous. Forever 21 has glorified this trend and the hipsters and mini fashionistas have jumped on the band wagon. Personally, I’m staying far away from it. I never saw Jackie Kennedy or Audrey Hepburn rocking this trend so I’m just going to assume that it’s a fad and will look hilarious in photos 20 years from now.

Enjoy your Tuesday! I’m getting back in the work grind right now.
