Morning Tips to Help Get You Going

Monday Mornings
Happy Monday morning friends. If you’re exhausted from this weekend, I suppose that means it was a good one! Sometimes on days like this I have a hard time getting myself out of bed and motivated for the day. When I say “sometimes” I mean at least twice a week! I don’t think I’m alone in this either. Here are a few ways to get yourself motivated for the morning!

Monday Motivation

  1. Coffee set to brew at the time you wake up. Have your favorite coffee mug sitting right beside the coffeemaker!
  2. Perfect outfit laid out the night before. Wear clothes that make you feel confident and beautiful.
  3. Healthy breakfast ready to go in the kitchen. Vanilla yogurt, granola, and a few strawberries mixed in!
  4. New playlist on your iPhone. Download a few new songs and put them in a playlist for you to enjoy on your way to work.
  5. Plan out your day. A schedule is the one thing that I can count on most days. Create one for yourself so you have less insecurity about what the day will bring.

If anything this morning, I hope your lipstick is perfect, your eyebrows are on point, and your coffee is just the way you like it! I’m going to enjoy wearing my heels, pearls, and aviators on this gorgeous Kansas City day. Leave a comment with your favorite morning motivational tip!

Splurge Items Under $30

inexpensive nordstrom

Good morning everyone! Here’s hoping your day is full of sunshine and smiles! I’ve been working harder lately to see the silver lining in everything and force myself to smile even when I don’t feel like it. It helps to be around people that radiate positivity and encouragement as opposed to pessimism (I bring enough of that to the table sometimes.) The last few weeks have been stressful and full of transition. Everyone has their own way of coping with difficult periods and unfortunately mine is spending money… and coloring in adult coloring books, but that’s another story.

Nordstrom on a Budget

In an effort to control my purse strings and save myself from financial ruin, I’ve opted to enjoy window shopping and pretend like I don’t have any money to spend, which isn’t too far from the truth! However, I realize that every once in a while we all deserve a little splurge item to enjoy. I scoured the Nordstrom website for the best “treat yourself” items that won’t break the bank. Shop a few of my favorites under $30 below!

Capes and Ponchos under $100

Over the Labor Day weekend I made the stupid mistake of walking into Saks Fifth Avenue to do a little retail therapy. Relax, I didn’t spend a dime! I was in search of the perfect cape/poncho to wear for the fall. Upon nearing the ‘new arrivals’ section in the women’s department, the sales associate reminded me that Saks was having wonderful sales for the holiday weekend. I politely smiled and thanked her while secretly thinking “Ooh 20% off things that are still too expensive! I think I’m good.” Still, I like to look and do a bit of day dreaming.

I found several capes for the fall that I really liked. Of course they were all over $100 (and that was on the low end). I sighed a little sigh of contempt and walked away. I went home and started Googling capes that were a little closer to my budget and I found this adorable one ($38!) via ‘The Sweetest Thing’ blog! Usually, I can’t identify with the author, Emily, because her style is very expensive. Valentino is her go-to shoe and I just can’t afford anything close to that. This time however, I was pleasantly surprised!

Knowing me, I’ll probably end up browsing my TJ Maxx and Marshall’s to find capes even cheaper, but sometimes even I give up and pay the full price, especially if it’s good quality. If you’ve seen any capes that are a good price leave me a comment and link below!

6 Fall Trends Here to Stay

Fall Trends

July is almost over pretty people and I for one am glad. Every single day has been filled with humidity, bad hair, and 90 degree heat. I love the summer, no really I do, but when I’m not near a beach and I’m sitting inside my apartment listening to the AC pump out air all day, I get sick of it. August will breeze by as it usually does and then we can all welcome the start of Autumn.

I’ve kept my eyes on the runways and on Instagram for what’s going to be stylish this season (and hopefully for years to come). Let’s start with the brown leather jacket– cute, edgy, and radiates warmth. It’s a staple in every woman’s closet and it just never goes out of style. This year, I think you’ll see more people sporting a lighter leather than the traditional biker jacket though.

Moving right along, I predict denim jackets will be in again! Flashback to Lizzie McGuire days on the Disney Channel (just no bedazzling our jackets please). I’m actually selling a denim jacket on eBay right now and it’s up for auction!

Up next on my fall finds is the military pant. They were trendy for spring but I couldn’t bring myself to wear olive drab when traditionally it’s pastel season. I’m saving this look for October when I can have my Pumpkin Spice Latte in hand and wear deep shades of greens, reds, and blues.

My next find I saw on the runway and I’m really in love- Velvet tops! Who knew, right? The last time I wore anything velvet-y was when I was 10. I saw a few people wearing it over the winter and thought it looked nice but designers are really embracing it this year. I’m hoping the likes of H&M will embrace it too for a less expensive look.

Finally, mules and felt floppy hats will be making a return this fall! See a previous post for cheap mules. The hat was really popular last year too and I think its here to stay! I didn’t jump on the bandwagon last year because I thought it was a little too hipster for me, but do I like it now? Guilty as charged.

Let me know what fall trends you’re noticing!

What Saturdays are for

Saturdays Shopping

My favorite part about the weekend is that I can go out shopping and eating with friends. I love farmer’s markets like Eastern Market in Washington, D.C. I also love finding cute little cafes to get my coffee at and then a glamorous place for brunch later on. Going boutique shopping or even outlet shopping is also something I love spending my weekends doing even if I don’t buy a thing.

This look was inspired by the warm summer colors I love so much and the plaids that become a staple for New Englanders in the fall. It’s a great transition look. I’m still holding onto summer for as long as I can.

This weekend I hope some of you get to go out and enjoy the fabulous shopping and dining around your cities. I’ll be sitting in my room doing homework and gulping down coffee while rocking out to my new favorite song- Hideaway by Kiesza! Seriously, it’s easy to get in the mood to do anything with this song playing.

Speaking of getting in the mood to do things, here’s a little sample of my top 5 things I need to do this weekend:

1. Finish my paper and take my quizzes
2. Clean out my closet
3. Exercise (hoping to find a kick boxing program on Netflix)
4. Organize my Lilly planner a little better
5. Relax with my Pinterest and a latte

If only there were more hours in the day… first world problems. Tell me what you’re up to this weekend in the comments below!
