S’Winter Style

how to wear chambray

It’s a beautiful December morning here in southern Maryland! The temperatures have been in the 60s for the last few days so I’m embracing it and wearing a few of my warm weather favorites like this great chambray shirt. There’s been a nasty virus going around and I was fortunate enough to catch it so I especially appreciate a warm summer/winter day!

Over the weekend, my boyfriend and I went to our local boardwalk to enjoy the sun and seagulls. A beautiful Christmas tree was decorated under a gazebo by the water and we stopped to take a few pictures. I just rediscovered my love of wearing white jeans after Labor Day and I had to share with you!

white jeansSome of my favorite looks are all about versatility and I love that white jeans like these (from Ann Taylor) can be worn with so much all year round. That’s the key to a great wardrobe on a budget- the ability to mix and match. During these awkward days when the weather just doesn’t know what season it is, I love being able to pull out a few things that work in all seasons. Even the accessories I wear tend to go with almost everything in my closet.

My favorite piece of jewelry I own is this beautiful Tiffany necklace that my sweet boyfriend bought for me as a Christmas gift! The classic Tiffany charm hangs next to a pretty pink heart on the chain. It came in the perfect little blue box and I was so surprised and excited to receive it! It’s what I like to call an investment piece. It’s going to cost you a pretty penny, but it goes beautifully with everything!

Audrey Hepburn Halloween Costume

Easy Halloween Costume

For those of you who wait until the last minute to get things done (myself included), here’s a quick, easy Halloween costume you can create with things you probably already have! I love one of the first scenes in Breakfast At Tiffany’s when Holly Golightly is waking up to answer the door. Her outfit is simple: an oversized men’s oxford shirt, a sleeping mask, and purple earplugs.

Holly Golightly Costume

The oxford you probably have at home. If you can’t find an oversized one, a regular one you have hanging in your closet will work paired with dark leggings or tights. Somewhere in the depths of your jewelry box, you most likely have some purple earrings you can wear as your “earplugs.” The hardest thing to find might be that legendary sleeping mask of Holly’s. I found a few Etsy stores that sell them. If you’re short on time, go to a craft store and buy a regular plastic mask and paint it teal. Add some gold puffy paint around the edges and draw on eyelashes and eyebrows.

Holly’s Hair and Makeup

The up-do in this famous scene is a little difficult to recreate if you don’t know how to tease your hair. Here’s a tutorial I found that is similar to the hair Holly is sporting. In terms of makeup, this costume requires very little. Do your regular routine of foundation, primer, and powder then add pink blush to the apples of your cheeks. Neutral eyeshadow is all you need, but bigger eyelashes will make your eyes pop. Use lots of mascara or some good fake eyelashes. Light pink lipstick completes the look!

You might see a lot of “Audrey Hepburns” walking around in her famous little black dress, but I guarantee you no one has thought to do this famous outfit. Enjoy!

Gift Guide for Mother’s Day

for mom

Happy Mother’s Day to my beautiful mama! She’s the biggest encouragement to me and she’s worked so hard to make me into the girl I am today. I absolutely adore her and consider her one of my best friends. I really lucked out when I was born to her and my dad. Some people didn’t get half as lucky as I did!

For her Mother’s Day gift, I found some cute Sperry’s on sale. I got her hooked on those a few years ago. If I were a millionaire, I would have taken her to Paris but seeing as how I’m not I new shoes would be almost as good.

I’m writing this post predominantly for the gentlemen who may have come across it that’s panicking because he forgot today was Mother’s Day. Guys, click on the image above for details on each of the items I included in my Mother’s Day gift guide. Perfume, flowers, jewelry, candles, and stationary are some of my favorite gifts to give! Good luck gents!

Audrey Hepburn and a Little Black Dress

LBD_Audrey_Hepburn
Audrey Hepburn’s classic Breakfast at Tiffany’s Little Black Dress. Every girl needs a little black dress in her closet. A classy one! Not one that you could also wear to a night club on the beach. The little black dress needs to be attractive and conservative enough to be compared to Jackie O and Audrey Hepburn’s.
I read a quote once from a designer, it might have been Edith Head, who said “A dress should be tight enough to show you’re a woman, but lose enough to show that you’re a lady.” Not the exact wording but you get the idea.
