Happy throwback Thursday friends! Last week at the VMAs, Taylor Swift took us way back to the golden age of Hollywood with her beautiful music video “Wildest Dreams”. Like every other girl in America, I’m in love with the song and now the video! Taylor and Scott Eastwood are a dream team and truly played their parts in the video well. Not only are they both gorgeous, the scenic location they used and the classic approach to the storyline made the video into a piece of art. I really can’t stop watching it.
As for T Swift’s outfit- I’m head over heels! The safari look is really popular for the fall and I’m embracing it. Taylor sports riding boots, high-waisted jodhpurs, a cropped white button-up, red lips, and cat eye sunnies. It really is a classic look that stays stylish. Lucky for me I already have the boots, jodhpurs, and red lipstick. I don’t think I’ll be bold enough to try a crop top as my time in Texas caused me to pack on a few pounds of delicious Tex-Mex.
I think what really pulls me into this video and Taylor’s look is the sense of adventure that exudes from it. She’s shooting a movie in Africa with a handsome guy in a rugged setting. Lions, giraffes, elephants, and cheetahs roam the set creating a sense of danger. On top of this, she wears clothing that makes her look adventurous and yet feminine. Taylor didn’t need Patagonia or LL Bean to send the message that she can be beautiful in the strangest of places.
I’ll be sporting my safari look this fall complete with red lips and jodhpurs. I promise not to wear binoculars around my neck or mosquito netting over my hat. That’d be a bit too much, don’t you think? Let me know what you think of the video in a comment below!
Remember that Taylor Swift song “22”? It was popular a few years back when her album “Red” debuted. I’ve been dying to sing this song for the last month because I’m turning 22 next Friday! Being born in the spring is the perfect testimony to the rebirth of nature and beauty that stems from it. April birthdays are the best birthdays!
Because I love the spring so much and my birthday is next week, I created the perfect little outfit to accompany this special event in my life. Like I mentioned in a previous post, I love the midi skirt and graphic tee trend! After Lent is finally over, I’ll be shopping for the perfect spring midi skirt to wear! I’m also all about the statement jewelry. My bestie, Lindsey, bought this gorgeous J Crew necklace and I’ve fallen in love with it. I’m also considering investing in some cute kitten heels. Since I’m around 5’8″, I typically don’t like to wear stilettos because I hit 6 foot and it’s awkward. Any tall girls out there who get what I’m saying?
Anyway, happy early birthday to me! I hope 22 is kind to me. 21 seemed to have a bit of an issue with me. Here’s to another year!
In preparation for Valentine’s Day, I’m rockin’ 50 shades of red (ok more like 3 or 4). I love this holiday because everything is either pink or red and has tons of sparkles on it. My only complaint is that there isn’t a Starbucks drink specifically for this month. Something like a ‘Cherry Jubilee’ has a nice ring to it, don’t you think? At least Nabisco came out with red velvet Oreos for the occasion, which, by the way are amazing!
For this super special day, I’ll be wearing Nars ‘Cruella” for the perfect Taylor Swift-stylepout.It’s very hard for me to wear certain shades of red. My skin tone, lightly bronzed cheeks, and recently-whitened teeth allow me to wear this shade of red. However, this color won’t look good on every girl. I recommend heading to the nearest Sephora and trying on every shade of redin the Nars velvet matte lip collection. I hated shelling out the money for this lip pencil but it really is amazing and the color lasts at least 8 hours. Pro tip: put on a bit of Chapstick before applying lipstick, it really helps keep your lips from chapping while wearing the product all day.
How to Wear Red Lipstick
Here are all the red lip pencils Nars has in their velvet matte collection. The color best suited for you will really depend on the undertones in your skin and your hair color. For me, I have a yellowy undertones in my skin and brunette hair (which is my natural hair color; no highlights here!) so deep, rich shades of red are better for me. If you have red undertones in your skin, then lighter shades might be better on you.
Whatever color you pick, make sure you don’t get any on your teeth! I’ve had this happen so many times and it really is embarrassing. Walking into a restaurant thinking you look super cute and you have red lipstick on your teeth (or worse, just below or above your actual lips) is not a confidence-booster! I’m pretty sure this never happens to Miss Taylor Swift so don’t let it happen to you either!
It’s come to my attention that the single girls in the world(and girls that just love to celebrate) have created their own holiday that just so happens to fall on February 14th- Galentines Day. And I’m going to give you a few ideas on how to celebrate!
I think the key to making ‘Galentines Day’ successful is to do (almost) everything you would do with your Valentine and do it with your gal pals. You have a few choices here. Enjoy champagne and chocolate covered strawberries. Watch a chick flick. Go to the local market and get some roses. Or you can put on your little black dress with some stilettos and go out dancing with your girl friends! Did I mention both activities require singing and dancing to Beyonce’s ‘Single Ladies’?
For option number 1, here’s what you need:
Chocolate. Chocolate. Chocolate.
Comfy sweats or pjs
Enough tacky girl movies to last until everyone passes out (think all the old Mary-Kate and Ashley movies)
A bouquet of pink roses for the centerpiece of your coffee table
Nothing says summer to fall like this! We love the rompers, but this long sleeve version in a very muted tone is great for that transition time. I love going black with my accessories because it looks so chic. A red lip is also trending (thanks Taylor Swift!) This outfit would be so great for a Saturday afternoon at the outdoor mall or at a cute little cafe somewhere.
It’s kind of funny because I have all these great ideas for adorable outfits to wear and nowhere to actually go in them! I live in a rural town and it’s perfectly acceptableto go literally anywhere in your sweatpants. During my time living in Washington, D.C., it was so great to dress up a little and go somewhere, even if it was during the day. Here’s my little tribute to those of us who get to dress up!
