Christmas Decorating on a Budget

Oh my goodness, Christmas is a week away! I’m freaking out! I haven’t watched half the movies I wanted to (namely Eloise at Christmastime, Elf, Christmas with the Kranks, and the Santa Clause). I haven’t baked a thing, not a single gift wrapped, still have shopping to do, and I’m not in the Christmas spirit! I keep saying to myself “Liz get in the spirit of the season! Hurry up!” and it isn’t working. I’m getting annoyed and running out of time. The big day is almost here and I haven’t done a thing to celebrate.

Anyway, rant over. I was walking through Target the other day and they have the cutest things for Christmas/winter decor. Some of it was already on sale! I’ve put together a few of my favorites for you guys in hopes of inspiring you to do some last minute decorating! I have so many cute things in mind for next year that I’m stocking up on Christmas everything December 26th.

The first thing I’m buying is that adorable ornament wreath! Everything you see in this post is from Target so it’s affordable. There’s nothing I dislike more than when bloggers or writers try to pass Pier 1 Imports off as “thrifty decorating.” There isn’t anything thrifty about spending $65 on a wreath. However, $20 I can work with.

Most of the pieces shown above I pictured in a living room and dining room setting. For example, the little silver tree could sit on the fireplace mantle or on a coffee table next to a stack of books. My number one tip for decorating is to keep it clean. There’s no need to overload your house (or lawn) with tons of knick knacks. Remember that less is more. Also, stick to a simple color scheme using no more than three coordinating colors.

A Week in Review

Good morning and happy Thursday. I hope my posts brighten your day a bit and maybe even inspire you. I love going through Instagram or my blog feed and reading what other people are saying. It usually gives me that extra skip in my step to get my day going. Everyone needs something to groove to!

panera_breadThe last week has been relaxing and I’ve truly enjoyed it. Just sitting around and not doing much of anything is a luxury in life and I don’t take it for granted. Starting Saturday my life is going to get busy really fast. Not to mention Thanksgiving is next Thursday and I for one am looking forward to it.

Sunday I spent the day with a friend and we went to Panera Bread. I got tomato soup and a turkey and cranberry flatbread sandwich. It was a nice combo and just enough to satisfy me. I hate feeling overstuffed! You can just look at your stomach and see how it has expanded in the last hour. Getting on a treadmill seems like a great idea until you realize that the food hasn’t quite digested yet.

I also spent a little time shopping around town. I live in typical faux_fur_headbandsuburbia the only difference is that we don’t have many good places to shop. The nearest mall is 45 minutes away. The nearest nice mall is about 90 minutes away. So when I say I’m shopping what I actually mean is going to Target and maybe Marshalls. Anyway, I found the cutest little head band at Target and it’s made to look like fur. It’s on my Christmas list now.

keep_calm_and_eat_cupcakesThe rest of the week has been filled with a lot of sitting around and drinking hot beverages while updating the blog and sending out my resume. Did I mention it’s hard to find a job right now? I’m graduating in 3 weeks and the job market seems to hate me at the moment. I’m getting a tad nervous! It’s times like these when I wish I could jump up and marry a rich man so I wouldn’t have to worry. I think this elevates me to gold digger status though. Oops.

I’ve also been going through my closet and seeing what dresses and little_black_dressprofessional clothing needs dry cleaning or tailoring. I tried on this lacy, black Express dress and am debating on whether I love it anymore. It has become my go-to dress for events but I’m not sure if it still flatters my figure. Opinions please!

Weekend Wear

abercrombie_and_fitch_scarfHappy Saturday everyone. The weekends come and go so fast but I’m determined to make this one last. On the agenda is a few hours of home work tomorrow morning and then actual money-making work in the evening. Finally, girl time with my bestie, Lindsey, on Sunday. We rarely get time to just hang out and do nothing for hours on end so I’m looking forward to it.

Proper hanging out isn’t complete without a cute outfit to do it in (and an iced latte). I’m wearing Old Navy shorts, Ann Taylor top and shoes, Abercrombie & Fitch scarf, and a Target belt. I’d give you the links to each item but they’re from so many seasons ago I don’t know where you would find them! The shoes I found over the summer for only $25 and sadly they aren’t sold anymore. Here’s an adorable alternative though from Express. The rest of my outfit is pretty easy to find in most stores and I didn’t spend much money on it either! If you’re in need of shorts like mine for next summer, shop in Old Navy’s clearance section. Seriously, shorts are under $5 right now! You can still look great without a hefty price tag if you plan ahead a bit.
