Fall Coffee Bar

Fall Coffee Bar

Good morning lovelies. It’s Monday again (will it ever just stop coming?) and I’m just not loving it like I should be. For whatever reason, some of the motivational-types in the blogging community have tried to convince the rest of us that Mondays are a gift and should be used to get as much done as possible. Are they kidding? I’m thrilled when I put makeup on and fold my laundry on Mondays.

In all seriousness though, I do get a lot done at the start of the new work week if I have a good night’s rest the evening before AND if I have my coffee in the morning. As someone who loves to decorate for every holiday and season, having a seasonal coffee bar is a little slice of paradise! In keeping with the trends, what better way to enjoy a coffee bar than on a bar cart?

Start with the basics, what color scheme do you like? I prefer gold, burnt orange, and cream. Something like orange, navy, and dark purple might be nice too. Since not all of us have bar carts sitting around much less a budget to buy one, a suitable alternative would be a nice entry way table like the ones you put your keys on when you walk in the house.

From there, add pumpkins, a bowl of apples, a tin of biscotti, or even pre-lit tree branches in a vase for a romantic look. I also think a tassel garland hanging off the side of a coffee bar or above it on the wall is really pretty! Keep the coffee maker on the top of bar cart with the little extras like cinnamon, nutmeg, or pumpkin spice. Add a candle or reed diffuser for decoration.

On the bottom of the cart put your coffee bags, mugs, stir sticks, and other coffee accessories. Depending on the size of the space your working in, less really can be more. I love to add decoration but I don’t like clutter. There’s a fine line!

In the fridge keep whipped cream, coffee creamers, milk, and syrups. To keep the cravings under control (and the coffee budget), write down any Starbucks drink recipes you like on pretty index cards and keep them at the bar. It’s really great to have around when you have company too! What better way to make guests feel welcome than a homemade pumpkin spice latte?

Trending: Marble Accessories

Happy Tuesday loves. Yesterday was hectic, which is why you didn’t hear much from me. I’m going away for a few weeks so I’m trying to get everything done and be on top of my game for when I’m out of town. Who knew it would be so difficult? You don’t realize how complicated your life is until you try to take some time away from it. Come to think of it, can you really ever take time away from life? I’m busy holding down a full time job while I search for another one because my contract ends in November. Job hunting is a full time job in and of itself! Enough about my little life, let’s talk about my latest love: marble.Marble Mayhem

Not only are our homes being decked out in marble accents, so is the jewelry we wear. I’m seeing it more and more than I expected. I knew marble counter tops were trending, but I never guessed jewelry would try to get in on the trend. Not sure if I’ll be getting in on this trend or not. I’m certainly on board when it comes to counter tops though. Call me crazy, but there’s nothing I dislike more than the granite counter top trend that’s been going on for the last 8 years or so. What started out as a luxury has become generic. Marble is timeless and something we should embrace more of in the design of our homes.

Since we all don’t have the money to go out and replace our counters on a whim, there are a few things that we can add to our kitchens that are much cheaper and still achieve the marble look. The first thing on my shopping list is a marble cutting board. I’ve seen these at TJ Maxx many times for about $30 and they look really nice! Cake stands are another pretty thing to have sitting in your kitchen. I’m dying to get my hands on a marble vase to put peonies in too!

Another really beautiful thing that goes well with marble is accents of gold! Even if it’s just a faux gold finish, the look of it is so elegant. There’s honestly nothing I love more when it comes to kitchen design. It’s also a classic and can’t be dated to one specific time period. Anyone who’s ever walked into a kitchen that hasn’t been redesigned since the 1970s knows how tacky it looks now. Classics are classics for a reason. Embrace marble and gold!

Let Them Eat Cake!

Let Them Eat Cake!
On Wednesdays we eat cake! This is my own little spin on Marie Antoinette and Mean Girls. “On Wednesdays we wear pink” and “Let them eat cake” are iconic statements from two glamor girls lost in their own worlds. Frankly, if they weren’t so shallow, I might actually adore them. Macarons, cupcakes, pastries, and expensive champagne are all delicious reminders of the aristocratic society Marie embodied. Too bad it started the French Revolution.

Baking Basics List

If you’re in the eastern part of the United States right now, then you know its raining like monsoon season in Asia. Since I can’t go outside to chop wood or reseed the lawn (like I’d do that anyway), I’m inside doing some planning and prepping for when I finally move out and get my own place!

baking_basicsI’m focusing on the kitchen and making a list of things I’ll be needing. From utensils and sauce pans to basic mixing bowls, I’ll be buying out all of Williams Sonoma! Given my budget though, it might be more like the housewares section of Target. After looking through my list, I’m noticing a trend: I really only care about buying baking supplies. Quite honestly, I don’t care if I have the supplies needed to steam veggies or grill a steak because neither of those things I’ll ever be doing anyway.

I found a fabulous company called Sur la Table and they specialize in cookware. Their selection of baking products is awesome though! Here are nine things every girl needs in her kitchen.

  1. Very basic, a stand mixer. My mom got one for Christmas a few years ago and it has been loved and used ever since.
  2. Measuring cups and spoons. Do I need to explain this one?
  3. For the messy baker, an apron. Sur la Table has plenty of adorable ones to choose from!
  4. Simply because they look so cute, a tart pan!
  5. I love a cute cupcake so these cupcake liners are a must for every cupcake connoisseur.
  6. Tea towels. I literally can’t buy enough of them, partly because our chocolate lab loves to steal them and run around the house.
  7. Cookie cutters! Seriously, sugar cookies are for all year round.
  8. For the love of all things pretty and Paris themed, a cute spatula. It’s a basic for baking right?
  9. A cake stand. There’s nothing more adorable than a pretty pastry sitting in a glass display.

Fall Bucket List

Hello Fall

A little fall inspiration for today! Its a lovely day outside and I can’t help but want to decorate everything and drink a million pumpkin spice lattes. So instead of doing all of that I’ve made a fall to-do list!

1. Corn Maze– Isn’t this a necessity of every kid who grew up anywhere near the country side?

2. Make Apple Crisp- I have an amazing recipe for this yummy, crock pot warmed dessert that I made last year. I’ll try to post it later because you will fall in love.

3. Carve a Pumpkin– I haven’t done this since I was a kid and I never did it very well. This year I think I’ll try a little harder. I’m thinking of doing a Tinker Bell pattern! Thoughts?

4. Make my Own Pumpkin Spice Latte– I went into Starbucks last week and got my first latte of the season… and it cost me $4.35. Yikes. Prices went up from last year. I’m going to be looking for a way to make my own at home.

5. Have a Campfire– Snuggle up in a flannel blanket and sit by a cozy fire outside while drinking apple cider. Sounds good to me.

6. Find the Perfect Fall Coffee Mug– I have an obsession with coffee mugs and I don’t have a cute one for autumn!

7. Rock a Puffer Vest– Ok, so I don’t have the coveted J Crew herringbone vest but I have a few other cute ones I have to wear. Watch for a post!

8. Watch a Football Game– Football bores me but I don’t understand it either. So this fall I’ll try and sit through a game to see if I can figure the darn thing out.

9. Go Hiking in the Mountains– I live near the Blue Ridge mountain range and I have to visit at some point. It’s so gorgeous when the leaves are changing!

10. Organize my Fall Wardrobe– For once I’ll pack up my summer stuff and put it in the attic and exclusively wear the warm, cozy clothes I’ve spent so much money on. Lord, help me.

What’s on your bucket list?
