Happy hump day lovelies! I’m counting down days until the weekend when all of my fun can start! In the mean time, let’s focus on something important that will be here before we know it: the Kentucky Derby. One of the oldest sporting events in America, this year horse lovers, millionaires, and preppy college students will flock to the racetrack on May 2nd!
In a previous post, I talked about my trip to the Derby in 2013. While it was memorable, I won’t be going back until I can get in an executive club suite to wait for the races to start. For those of you who are going this year, I suggest wearing this new Lilly Pulitzer shift that just came out! Bright, flamboyant colors are very appropriate for this day as ladies (and a few gents) go big or go home for the event. If there’s no rain in the forecast, try wearing espadrille wedges in a muted color like these Jack Rogers. Accessories wise, you can never go wrong with Kendra Scott! These earrings bring out the green in the dress beautifully.
Here’s the most important part of the outfit: the hat. Women wear some pretty incredible hats as part of the Kentucky Derby tradition. As someone who spent more time hanging out with other college-aged girls under the Vineyard Vines tent in the infield, I can tell you that this age group stuck to their monogrammed, wide-brimmed floppy hats. Older age groups wore more eccentric hats. The hat I featured is from The Palm Gifts.
Let me know if you plan on going to the Derby this year! I’d love to know what you’re wearing!
I posted yesterday about my Lilly for Target finds and the adventure I had finding them. Today, I wanted to talk about the problems myself and others encountered with the coveted line. As much as I loved this collaboration and as great as the prints were, there were some things that could have been improved upon. It’s been dubbed the Preppy Girl’s Hunger Games for a reason!
The first thing that should have been better prepared for is the product demand. We were told before the store opened that there was only one dress per size and style available. For example, I’m a size 8 and I got the shift dress in “Upstream” print. I got the only size 8 in stockin that print. That’s insane. I’m not the only size 8 in line wanting a dress. Didn’t they perceive this as being a problem?
The second big issue was the website. It crashed around 3am Sunday morning from so many people trying to access it. The same thing happened in 2011 for their collaboration with Missoni. I totally understand that sometimes websites just crash. However, since Target has already dealt with this problem in the past shouldn’t they have prepared for this?
The final major problem were the Ebayers. Target really can’t do too much about this except for limiting how much you can buy of a certain thing. There were quite a few peoplethat I know were planning on hoarding whatever they could find (I see you lady with white knee socks and orthopedic shoes!) and then reselling it on Ebay for double or even triple the original price. It’s entrepreneurship at it’s finest, but it really sucks for the rest of us who just want to wear something colorful for the spring and summer months.
I’m still glad I was able to get my shift and maxi dress. I’ve gotten quite a few compliments on the shift that I wore to work yesterday.
Happy Friday beauties! I look forward to this day every week not only because it’s the start of my glamorous weekends (kidding), but because usually our weather starts to change again. I swear it has a weekly cycle it goes through. Right now, we’re in the rainy stage of it. It’s been gray and overcast for the last few days and I’m tired of it. They say “April showers bring May flowers” though.
Since April is the Mid-Atlantic’s rainiest season, I haven’t been thinking much about the loveliness that spring holds. Like I said, the skies are overcast and dropping enough rain to last what seems like a lifetime. In the midst of all this gray, I’ve tried to incorporate color into my life. It’s like that quote from Albert Camus, “In the midst of winter I found there was within me an invincible summer.” No matter the weather, live like everything is alive and blooming.
Go for a walk in the rain and wear bright rain boots. Drink some tea and admire the buds on the trees. Buy a vibrant accessory for the season. Spring is all about hope and the knowledge that tomorrow will be even more beautiful. Enjoy the rain and all that comes with, because it brings the most extraordinary things in May!
Thanks to everyone who wished me a happy birthday! I’m always overwhelmed with the amount of kindness I’m shown on my birthday from friends, family, and my fabulous readers. It motivates me to keep going. Sometimes life just burns you out, but being reminded of the support system that backs you up breathes life into an otherwise tired spirit. Thanks for the breath of life guys!
Anyway, I had a really nice birthday despite visiting the doctor to be tested for this and that. My parents took me out for Italian food and then we came home and had my favorite ice cream cake! I also treated myself to a few goodies such as these adorable navy blue stiletto Ann Taylor heels I found on sale. They make my legs look amazing! Then I went into Aldo and scored some cat eye sunglasses for the summer. I was also gifted a lovely Kate Spade sequin watch and Abercrombie tee with a scarf from two really special people in my life.
I spent Easter Sunday enjoying the spring weather by the water. My mom, sister, and I sat on a dock and let the sun warm our backs. We watched the ducks dip their heads under water while their little feet were in the air. Some creatures just do the most adorable things. The Easter Bunny also came and left me with some cute notecards, chocolate, socks, nail polish, and gel window clings for decoration. Smart bunny!
Tomorrow I’ll be writing about my progress in the gym, my favorite exercises, and a few other tips. Don’t forget to join me!
Happy Monday loves. I hope wherever you are the weather is starting to feel spring-like. I adore this season when it begins to warm up and the buds on the trees begin to show. Hearing the frogs out in the woods making noises and the birds chirping reminds me that the earth is ready to come back to life after having been asleep for so many months.
Part of me becomes so inspired this time of the year while the other part just wants the allergies to subside. There’s nothing I’d love more than to sit outside in a flowing sundress with the sun in my hair, tanning my skin while I sip a smoothie and enjoy the latest issue of Vogue. Spring brings me out of hibernation. I’m sure many of you know how I feel!
I was browsing through Pinterest and came across these images that just highlighted how lovely this time of the year is. Check my pin feed to see what else I’ve been pinning! I’m loving lots of flowers right now. Design hint: A simple vase with brightly colored flowers adds warmth to your home!
Vibrant colors wake me up on Monday’s (and coffee) so my sincerest hope is that these pictures had the same effect on you. Go to my pin feed linked above and scroll down to see the original pins and where they came from. Enjoy.
