J Crew Steals for the Fall

jcrew fall collection

Happy Wednesday friends. I’m back from my trip to New England feeling refreshed and relaxed. I absolutely loved it up north and really felt in touch with the ‘yankee’ roots on my mom’s side. We had a great time up there as a family, especially because it will probably be our last family trip for awhile as I’ll be most likely moving for my next job. Coming back from vacation is always hard but I love sleeping in my own bed! Do you know what I mean?

J Crew Finds

Last night, I was browsing through the J Crew website trying to find some steals. I came across clearance (Ok, not really, it was the first place I looked), and found some amazing deals! They had plenty of summer stuff but also quite a few things that could be worn this season. I focused the color palette on the primary colors- red, blue, and a touch of yellow! Best part is, almost everything is under $50 (plus, I think there’s free shipping going on!) These are just a few of my favorite things on clearance right now, there’s plenty of other things so go check it out!

Let me know if you buy anything and what you bought! Also, be sure to like my Facebook page, it could use some love!

#PSL Inspiration

Fall and PSL

Even though it’s about 90 degrees outside I’m dreaming of fall! I was looking through my Instagram feed and everyone seems to be gearing up for #PSL season. Frankly, I’ve been ready for it since last month but I think I can wait just a little longer.

Since I live in the Mid-Atlantic region I’m accustomed to wearing summery things well into the middle of October. As a kid, I would go back to school shopping and wear everything my mom got me within a week even if it was 80 degrees out and the pants were corduroy. I didn’t care, I was just so excited to wear new clothes. The same holds true now.

This season, I’m loving white jeans and chambray! The jeans are a perfect transition piece to wear because they give off that warm weather vibe while still being warmer than shorts. I found a great pair at Ann Taylor last summer for $15. Start searching the stores for their summer clearance items and see if you can score any.

I’m also loving mules and felt floppy hats for the season. I’ve seen quite a few of both at places like J Crew but you can find it cheaper at Target. One thing I’m learning very quickly is not to skimp on shoes. I bought mules at Target a few weeks ago on clearance and they hurt like crazy! No padding in the heel at all so you can really only wear them for a short amount of time. I realize we all can’t afford Jimmy Choo so my alternative is Aldo. They have well-made shoes and decent prices especially if you’re willing to wait an extra month or two for their seasonal merchandise to go down in price.

Enjoy shopping for autumn and let me know if find anything good!

Back to School Shopping for Under $300

It’s the first week of August and back to school shopping is starting. I’m not sure whether to rejoice for people who have kids and are ready for them to go back or say a silent prayer asking for summer to stay just a little longer. This past week, I made my decision and went shopping! I found out about a family in my church who needed help getting back to school clothes for their kids. My heart went out to them and I volunteered to get all 3 kids a new wardrobe- for under $300. Here’s how I did it!

Back to School for Less

I started by buzzing my way around all the local stores that were having back to school sales- and then making my way straight to the clearance racks. That’s right, I skipped the advertised “sale” racks. Rarely, in my opinion, are sales a good deal when you are really trying to save money. For example, I went to Kohl’s to get one of the kids some jeans. Sure, they had tons of jeans on sale (2 for $40) but typically I can find a better deal on the same jeans on clearance. I browsed the rack a bit and found two styles of jeans in the size I needed for $10 each! I tried the same method at American Eagle for the older kid and found a pair for $19.99.

For the oldest son, I spent more money in stores like Hollister to get the teenager favorites, but I still shopped the clearance rack for tees ($7.99 each). I spent a lot of time in places like Marshall’s to get t-shirts and hoodies for all of the kids though. It’s my best kept secret for finding steals!

For the youngest little girl, I went to Target and Old Navy and found jeans for $10 and tees (long and short sleeve) for under $4 each. Once again, I shopped the clearance rack. I splurged a little and got her a pink tutu dress for $8. The most expensive part of my shopping was the shoes but I still got great deals. I found Sperrys on clearance for $34 and DC high tops for $24. Kids have to go back to school looking good, right?

When I was a kid (that was like 5 years ago), I remember how important it was to have the “right” brands and the latest trends. As much as I don’t want kids to give into peer pressure, sometimes little things like wearing a certain clothing brands isn’t a big deal in the grand scheme of things. If you can find a good deal on it, then have at it!

To sum everything up, I bought 6 pairs of jeans, 1 pair of shorts, 2 pairs of shoes, 2 backpacks, 3 dress shirts, 1 dress, 1 pair of leggings, 15 t-shirts, and 2 hoodies all for under $300! That is why shopping the clearance rack is so smart. Happy shopping!

I love a Shoe Sale!

I am so glad it’s finally Saturday! Sleeping in a bit, drinking my coffee slowly, and a yummy breakfast are the best parts of the weekend. This week has been rough on me and I deserve some time to relax and reward myself for all the hard work I did. Speaking of rewards, I did a little shoe shopping at Target today and found a few goodies on clearance!

These adorable heels were only $10.48 on clearance! I linked them in the photo for you. For whatever reason, they aren’t on sale on the website but you can at least get a better idea of what they look like. I’ve also heard that these are good dupe for the Kate Spade Mule that’s really popular. They aren’t as comfy (let’s be real, $10 shoes will tear up your feet) but since I can’t spend $300 on pretty shoes, I’ll spend a few bucks on some that I don’t plan on wearing that often. I’m really excited about wearing these for Autumn though! They look great with denim!

I also found these adorable embellished sandals at Target for $11! I have plenty of sandals, but I’m stocking up for next summer while everything is headed to the clearance rack.

My last little find was a knock off of the popular Anthropology metallic letter mug that every fashion blogger casually had in their hand for Instagram coffee sipping photos. It was on clearance for $1.48 at Michael’s Craft Store!

The Golden Rules of Shopping

Flowers and Coffee
Happy Friday loves! On Wednesday, I was super excited to find out that an article I wrote was published on the Money Saving Mom blog! I’m certainly not a mom, but I know how important it is to learn how to save money. In the article, I talk about my addiction to shopping and how I’ve slowly found ways to break free from it and save money too!
Today, I’m going to give you my golden rules for shopping so you can get the best deal wherever you are and no matter what you’re looking for.
  • Read the fine print
    • I get so many emails from stores like Old Navy advertising a “great” sale their having. I get all excited at first that whatever I want is on sale until I realize that in order to get the sale price, I have to either spend a certain amount of money or I have to use my Old Navy credit card. Rarely is this a good deal. If I just need a blouse but I have to spend $50 to get the sale price, it’s not a good deal.
  • Shop often
    • I get the best prices on things that I genuinely love by browsing the stores at least once a week. For example, I had been eyeing a really cute Lauren Conrad dress for awhile. I checked back at the store every Saturday for about a month. Finally, it came down in price from $64 to $34 and then finally to $15! It pays to wait awhile.
  • Skip the BOGO
    • Since when did I want to buy one to get another one? Usually, I only need 1 of something, not multiples. This is only worth it if you’ve found a great layering t-shirt because you can always use several of those (necessary in every wardrobe, see post about this here).
  • Shop in the opposite season
    • For example, if it’s the beginning of summer, look for things on clearance from the late winter season. I never pay full price for clothing. I don’t buy summer clothes during the summer, I only by them in the mid-late fall because that’s when they will be the lowest price.

Do you have any golden rules for shopping? I’d love to hear them! Leave me a comment!
