pipe cleaner trees

Oooh you guys! Target has done it again! Their Dollar Spot is on point this Christmas! They have a lot of inexpensive decorative items and tons of really cute things to give as little gifts or stocking stuffers! If anyone wonders where I spend all of our money, its in this little section. Like how does $1 + $3 + $5 = $56?! It just happens in that section of Target. ANYWHO, take a look at what’s in store!

Bar & Kitchen Gifts

Everything is between $1 and $7! As you can imagine, I’ve been restraining myself from purchasing basically everything (I mean it’s only November, right?) But you better believe I’ll be raiding the Dollar Spot in the coming weeks!

Target Dollar Section Valentine’s Day Finds

target dollar section

Happy New Year lovelies! I hope you got to bring in 2017 with style and had a nice night on the town! David and I met up with some friends of ours at one of our favorite hang outs in Dallas. We came home before midnight though because Uber surge pricing gets expensive… and David bought us a bottle of champagne to celebrate the New Year!

Right after the holidays are over and the madness dies down, I love to go out to my favorite stores and browse their clearance sections and find little treasures. I also love to check out Target’s Dollar Spot for new seasonal items! With Valentine’s Day coming up, I figured they’d have some pretty adorable things. Target outdid themselves this year though! The dollar section kept me occupied for a good 20 minutes yesterday afternoon. Everything I found was under $5 and totally worth the buy!

Target Dollar Spot Under $5 Finds!

target scarves for spring

Ok. Seriously. How cute are these scarves? I love the watercolor flowers on the one and the gold polka dots on the other. Better yet, they’re each $3!

I love adorable door hangers and nice table runners to class up the dining room. Both of these are between $3-5!

To be honest, I’m not entirely sure of what these are supposed to be. I thought just regular glasses for drinking but I kind of like them for storing make up brushes or small potted flowers. These pretty glasses are $3 each!

floral travel mug

Do I have an obsession with coffee mugs and travel mugs? Yes, I do! When I saw this one I got really excited because I love floral prints! You can find this in the Target dollar spot for under $5.

good vibes for new year

So for whatever reason, I love pretty or fun dish towels and of course the Valentine’s selection at Target didn’t disappoint. I also love signs that say something motivational like these ones do. Signs and dish towels are each $3!

Dressing for the Heat

peplum top old navy

Happy Monday beauties! I hope your weekend was as lovely as mine. Saturday, I spent my time wandering around one of the nicer malls here in Dallas. The Henri Bendel store called my name and greeted me with a glass of champagne and macarons when I walked in. Needless to say, I stayed awhile and admired all the pretty things that caught me eye. Believe me, there was plenty! Sunday, David took me to lunch and then to the outlets to look around. It was a fun date! Spending time with him is one of my favorite things in the world. Even simple things like running errands become so much more fun with him!

abercrombie lace shorts

After we went shopping, I went home and had David take my outfit pictures. The things boyfriends have to do, right? It’s so warm here in Texas that the things I find myself wearing here are totally different from what I wore back on the East Coast. “Back east” as my dad likes to say, chino shorts in hot pink and aqua blue were my favorite things to wear! In Texas, not so much.

I’m slowly changing my wardrobe to accommodate the hotter temperatures here. My tops are slowly becoming 100% cotton and my shorts and dresses are merging into the linen realm. Let me tell you, it feels so much better than the heavier fabrics I wore back in my home state of Maryland. J Crew chino shorts in neon colors are so not happening anymore.

dallas summer style

This outfit is my go-to for days that involve being outdoors a lot. The top is from Old Navy ($7 on the clearance rack, hurry there may be some left!) The lace shorts are from the Abercrombie & Fitch outlet. I love the style of the top! It’s peplum, cotton, and striped! Best of all, it’s breathable for the stifling heat here in Texas. What more could I ask for?

My tips for living in this hot climate?

  • Choose things that are 100% cotton or linen

  • If you find something you love that’s great for the heat, buy multiples!

  • Rock the trends but don’t forget personal comfort, sometimes they go hand in hand!

Why I didn’t shop the NSale

Nordstrom anniversary sale expensiveLet me start out by saying that I’m so glad that some people got to take advantage of the Nordstrom Anniversary sale! Quite a few bloggers I know look forward to it every year and blog about their sale finds later. I’m completely living through them right now! However, when I remembered the sale was going to start soon I made a decision right there and then not to shop the sale for two reasons.

The first reason is that I’m trying to watch my spending. Impulse purchases are by far my biggest issue when it comes to shopping a sale. The very word ‘sale’ invokes a crazy mental response from me that says no matter what, if it’s on sale I have to have it, even if I don’t need it. A bank account can’t sustain that kind of thinking for long. Semi-annual sales are the worst for me because 75% off is something I find almost impossible to pass up.

When I was a young teenager, the Bath and Body Works semi-annual was what I lived for! If there was any body wash, perfume, or candle on sale I had to buy it even though I had plenty. I would get in the car with my mom and she would say “how much more smelly stuff do you need?!” I would just look at her like she’s crazy for not taking advantage of the prices, but it turns out she had point.

The second reason is more of a personal philosophy. I have thousands of dollars in student loans to repay and therefore have no business buying shoes that are on sale for $150 as opposed to $300. For the serious fashion-minded gal, paying $150 for shoes is a no brainer. For someone a little more thrifty, I can’t do it! Someday when all of my debts have been paid and I have money in my savings account, I might join you at the Nordstrom Anniversary sale. Right now, I’ll just sit back and live through you!
