Relaxation on a Monday Morning

Good morning! The last week has been a roller coaster of emotions and crazy schedules to balance. I apologize that I haven’t been posting nearly as much as I normally do. Life just gets in the way of life sometimes. It demands so much of our attention! Sometimes you need to just sit back and learn to take it as it comes. Expect nothing and prepare for everything.

Part of my Monday morning routine is to do a little pampering. I get up earlier than usual and just enjoy my morning coffee and a nice, long shower. Here’s what’s in my bath right now:

I’m loving exfoliating loofahs and gloves. They work wonders on my skin. It feels so much cleaner after I scrub my skin with it. I use the Bath and Body Works Eucalyptus ‘Stress Relief’ shower gel and I feel so relaxed after smelling it for awhile. It’s very therapeutic! I also love Pecksniff’s England shower gel for when the Eucalyptus is a little too strong for me.

It may sound silly, but I love to light a candle while I’m in the shower or tub for added ambiance and relaxation. Am I a stereotypical girl or what?

For my face, I use Botanics facial cleansing cream. I found it at Target on sale and I love it! I can barely put anything on my face because I break out. This is an organic cleanser, so everything is natural and you won’t be putting chemicals all over your beautiful skin!

My last two loves for the shower are from Lush. The bath bomb is their “Avo-Bomb” and it’s all natural ingredients! I also like their soap “Miranda” for it’s citrus smell. Lush can be pricey, but their products are really great!

Mornings With Liz

Hello beauties! Yesterday was a long day that used up most of my energy, whence why I didn’t write anything to share with you. Today, is my recovery day so to speak. I slept like a baby last night and literally just woke up. I’ve determined that mornings should be done differently in this country. The waking up at the crack of dawn, barely choking down a bowl of cereal, and mad dash to work isn’t a healthy way to live each day. I propose a new kind of morning!

Does this kind of a morning not look infinitely better than the kind you and I are used to? I’m all for #hustle as long as we can still enjoy our lives. It’s mind boggling to me that we have to live our personal lives around a 9-5 schedule. Why is that? Based on what I’ve noticed in my job search, more and more companies are realizing that this kind of work life isn’t conducive with how people live today. Many companies are starting to value flex hours (employees pick the times they work). As long as work is getting done, I think it’s a great idea!

The 9-5 schedule used to work for Americans. As years have gone by though, we are getting increasingly busy and have more on our plates than ever before. If you have kids, you know how true this is! Shuffling them from school to practices and to friend’s houses is just exhausting. Combine that with having to work around a strict schedule of business hours and you’ll be feeling defeated.

Our mornings should be beautiful. A good breakfast, hot coffee, the day’s paper, a nice workout, and happier drive to work with less road rage would be so lovely, don’t you think?

How I Keep My Skin Looking Clear

You know what I hate most about the winter time? It isn’t the snow, the awkward 40 degree temperatures, or the dead tree branches outside of my window; it’s how my skin acts! We all have some sort of a skin type whether it be normal, dry, or oily. However, my skin is a whole combination of those and during the colder months, it becomes harder to deal with.

My Skin Care Routine

skin_care_routine Women have a whole skin care routine that our male counterparts don’t even know exist. And we like to keep it that way. We can’t just wash our faces, throw on some make up, and have great skin all the time. It’s just not how it works. My skin care routine isn’t that complicated compared to some ladies I know, but it’s still time consuming. My sister and I (pictured next to me), have pretty decent genetics in terms of skin, but we even have problems!

I start my day by washing the sleep off my face with cold water before towel drying it and applying Cera Ve lotion to the brim of my nose, cheeks, and forehead. Anywhere else on my face puts me at serious acne risk. I also use this in place of a regular moisturizer because it was recommended to me by a dermatologist. If I decide to wear foundation that day, I prefer to use Maybelline Matte Finish and a simple powder on top of that. It looks weightless on my skin and gives it an airbrushed look.

Throughout the day, I’m constantly dabbing at my “T-Zone” with a tissue. The area that runs above your eyebrows and down through your nose is where pimples are most likely to pop up. Pun intended. Keeping this area oil-free during the day helps keep your pores from getting clogged.

Around 7pm, I take my make up off with a Neutrogena make up removing towelette. I pay careful attention to my T-Zone again and even make sure to get the areas close to my ears and under my chin completely make up free. Pimples and blackheads enjoy making occasional appearances in those areas too!

Other skin care tips:

  • Go make up-less at least one day a week- Believe me, it helps my skin breathe!
  • Buy a blackhead extractor- Instead of using your nails and finger tips to squeeze out little blackheads that are visible, get this little tool!
  • Avoid face wash that lathers up- A beauty guru at Lush Cosmetics told me that the more a soap lathers up (gets all bubbly), the worse it is on your skin in terms of drying it out.

Skin can be so irritable and unpredictable but following a skin care routine will help you tame those pores and create a glowing complexion!

Going Makeup-Less and Other Things I Do For My Skin

selfie_no_makeup_onOne of the most important things you can do for your skin besides washing it daily and applying sunscreen is allowing your pores to breathe! At least once a week I don’t wear any makeup to improve the health of my skin. I usually make that day Sunday since I’m at home and relaxing. The picture to the left was me last Sunday. I’ll admit, my hair had maintained it’s curl from the day before, but I’m wearing absolutely no makeup and I know it shows!

Besides going makeup-free once a week I do two other things for my skin. First, I wash it with body scrub when I’m in the shower, and second, I take my makeup off before I go to bed. You would be amazed at the amount of people who don’t do those things!

The body scrub I really like is St. Ive’s Apricot body scrub. It works really well and comes with a lot for the price. You can find it at Target in the beauty area. When I’m taking my makeup off I use Neutrogena makeup-remover towelettes. It gets everything off. One thing you might also consider that works well for getting that stubborn mascara off is cold cream. It works like a dream and your eyelashes will be light and beautiful again!

I’ve tried so many products that say they’ll do this or that and they never works the way they’re supposed to. These are the few I’ve tried that really do work. I’ve never had bad skin until I got to college and started stressing out more causing an increase in oil production released through my pores. When that started, I knew I had to take better care of my skin! I dare you to go makeup-less for at least one day a week! It only takes 30 seconds for your skin to absorb anything that goes on your face. After a week of wearing makeup, your skin deserves a break!

Daily Routine for the Most Uncertain Times

Have you ever started to write something and had no idea what to say? That’s the feeling I have right now. Writer’s block maybe? I couldn’t tell you if it were. I’ve felt a little off-kilter so to speak the last few days. Like many soon-to-be graduates, I have a lot riding on the next few weeks. I can’t tell you where I’m going to move after December when I finish my last class. Lord only knows who I’ll be working for. It all becomes so real when the future is suddenly at your door knocking.

To create a sense of tranquility and routine in my life, I’m compiling a list of little things that I (and you) can do. I find that I feel my best with a schedule and know what to expect on a daily basis even if the future is a little unstable. Just like our bodies have a schedule of when to eat and sleep, our minds NEED a schedule of wait to expect throughout the day. Enjoy my little list!
