A Date in Williamsburg

Hello lovelies! I’ve been so busy lately and traveling a lot. Last week, I went to Colonial Williamsburg with someone special (winky face)! It was a long, hot day of walking around and sight seeing. I didn’t even bother to wear any makeup beyond mascara and a little concealer to take the look of death away from my under-eye circles.

We started the day by checking out the little shops and boutiques in downtown Williamsburg. I adore local cheese shops and gourmet grocers. There’s just something so exciting about exploring the food selection of another town. It’s the classic case of the “grass is always greener”. After trying local yummies, we went in a little store called Ocean Palms. To my surprise, it was a Lilly Pulitzer store! I ended up finding a skirt I wanted half off. I can’t wait to do a post on it, you will fall in love!

After this, we went down the Duke of Gloucester street, taking in the pretty little buildings and reading up on historical happenings. We even got ourselves in a few mock stalks for a picture. As I said, it was very hot and we went through water like crazy. To keep cool, we ducked into little colonial shops and explored the period items they had for sale. I found some lavender soap that smelled divine. I had to stop myself from buying it though, bars of soap just make my skin itchy!

For a short break from the heat, we went to some shopping outlets and I found a Ralph Lauren shirt for half off and my beau bought me J Crew shorts! After our shopping, we went back to downtown Williamsburg and had dinner in a really nice restaurant called Shields Tavern. Everything from the food to the waiters were themed around the time of the Revolutionary War.

Our final adventure before going home was a ghost tour of Colonial Williamsburg. Spooks and Legends did our tour and it was really incredible! The tour started at 9pm with a tour guide dressed in colonial clothing. Each location we stopped at had it’s own ghost stories and freaky haunts. It honestly gave me goose bumps at times. The tour lasted an hour or so and I took pictures hoping to see something in one of the windows. No such luck.

By the time we got home we were both exhausted. We had many laughs and cute moments, but I think we were both thrilled to crash and go to sleep. Long days require long rests. I’m still recovering.

Ranked: Best Chick Flicks

top_chick_flicksA friend of mine at work was showing me a list of the top 20 western films of all time according to another blogger. Not being the connoisseur of western movies that he and his other male counterparts are, I decided to try to win at their game by writing my own list of top chick flicks. You girls may want to add a few or even take away some, but if I had a 48 hour drive somewhere and I needed to kill time, I’d be packin’ heat with these lovelies.

Top 15 Chick Flicks

15. Letters to Juliet– It’s romantic, funny, and set in Italy. All the elements of a good girl movie.

14. Aquamarine– Flashback to my middle-early high school days! Seriously, the best Disney/Nickelodeon cast of teen girls ever.

13. The Notebook– I love Rachel McAdams and James Marsden is my man. You read that right, I didn’t swoon over Noah in the movie, I was in love with Lon. Sue me.

12. It’s Complicated– This movie is awkwardly hilarious. I was stuck on a plane coming back from Orlando and this was the only movie that I could get in while up in there. Is it weird that I love this movie only because she’s an amazing baker and Steve Martin is in it?

11. The Devil Wears Prada– Meryl Streep is the epitome of #girlboss in this movie and her hair is on point. I love the little look inside the elusive fashion world we all sub-consciously wonder about.

10. Twilight– Edward Cullen *swoon*. I’m Team Edward. Deal with it.

9. Made of Honor– Patrick Dempsey is such a cutie and he really knocked it off the park with this rom-com.

8. Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants– Such a classic for us girls! A story of best friends, exotic travels, and even more exotic men (if you’re Lena that is). What more could I ask for?

7. Clueless– This is a cult classic. It just is. Rich, unassuming girl spending daddy’s money and trying to do good in the world? How cute.

6. Mean Girls– Regina George. On Wednesdays, we Wear Pink. Everyone gets those references. Nuff’ said.

5. Cinderella– Not the 1950s Cindy, the new Lilly James version that came out this year. It struck a chord in me. I can’t get over how beautiful it was. Prince Charming was also just swoon-worthy. When Ella says that everyone is looking at him, he replies “Believe me, they’re all looking at you.” How sweet is that?

4. How to Marry a Millionaire– An old Marilyn Monroe movie that is as vain as it sounds. These ladies want to marry money and they’re having a hard time finding it. Story of my life. Oops, I shouldn’t say that.

3. The Princess Diaries– Most of us grew up wanting to be princesses and we were able to watch Anne Hathaway actually become one. Not to mention we rekindled our love of Julie Andrews. The woman never ages and always looks beautiful.

2. Legally Blonde– Elle Woods. Need I say more?

1. Breakfast at Tiffany’s– My best friend would kill me if this weren’t at the top of my list. Audrey Hepburn is an icon and this movie is her legacy. A helpless girl who has a love affair with expensive things and the wrong guys, sounds like me for sure.

What did I miss? Let me know!

Running Shoes Weren’t Made for This

under_armor_pink_shoesRemember those new Under Armor running shoes I talked about? Well, I still haven’t used them much at the gym and they aren’t really broken in yet. However, I like many ladies, have learned to use my running shoes for an unintended purpose: chasing after a guy. I bought these shoes at Dick’s Sporting Goods, not on the eHarmony website, and yet I seem to be metaphorically using them for the wrong thing! Smart one, Liz.

I don’t think I’m the only girl who is misusing her running shoes though. The more I talk to girls from all over the country (and even the world), they all seem to be doing this too. The question is why? Why do girls put themselves through this? I don’t know the answer honestly. I can speculate that maybe it’s because we know that the guys we’re interested in won’t bother to try and chase us down. It could also be because guys know that women will come to them, thus eliminating the notion that they have to put a little effort in too. It’s anyone’s guess though.

The point is that girls are feeling like if they don’t do the “chasing”, then the guys they’re interested in won’t be bothered with them and might even move on to another girl who IS trying to snag him. Curiously enough, relationships where only one party is trying to make it work typically don’t last too long. It has to be a mutual effort. The romance and all that jazz is only worth it when both people are willing to give 100% to it. Otherwise, it’s one person doing all the work and one person enjoying the benefits.

I’m personally vowing not to be a “chaser” anymore. It’s one thing to be a little flirty while illustrating one’s interest in the guy, but it is quite another to be doing all the leg work in getting his attention and admiration. Ladies, I challenge you to make this vow too! We are beautiful, smart women that want men who see our value and know that not pursuing us would be a grave mistake. Simply put, let’s not sell ourselves short.

A girl doesn’t need anyone that doesn’t need her.
