Good morning lovelies! I had to drag myself out of bed this morning, I was so comfy and warm! Alas, all good things must come to end. I got out of bed, made my bed, got my coffee, and started getting dressed. Lucky for you, I have an awesome outfit to share that came at a fabulous price!
This adorable dark green and black dress came from Ann Taylor a few months back. The original price on the tag was $120 but I bought it on clearance for $4.88! Yes, you read that right, the dress was under $5 and I bought it straight off the Ann Taylor racks. This dress is beyond flattering and hits at all the right places. It is a thicker material so I’m looking forward to fall little black dress parties where I can sport this number.
My shoes are also from Ann Taylor ($25 on clearance). I love them because they go with everything and have a nice sound to them when you’re walking on a hard surface. The sound of heels clicking, is rather soothing to me.
The lipstick is my signature red in Nars’ Cruella. I’ve said so many times but I live by this lipstick. It’s the best!
Today, I’m headed into my company’s office to work from there and wanted to look presentable. Our work atmosphere is very laid back and enjoyable, but I still like to look nice an the days where I’m close quarters with coworkers and supervisors. You only have one shot to make a good impression and hopefully I’ve made mine.
That’s one thing I wish more people would learn about the workplace. Just because the dress code is “business casual” doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t dress up a bit. Dress for the job you want and not the job you have! Be the person that you want to be, not the one you aren’t too impressed with.
A trend I’m hoping to see for the summer months is color blocking! For those of you who don’t know what that is, it’s basically sectioning off different parts of your body with a distinct color. For example, the yellow top would section off your upper torso and chest while the skirt would section off your legs and hips.
This was popular last year and it was really flattering. I love bright colors for the summer months too. Obviously I’m a lover of anything pink so that will be one of the color blocks I go to quite often. I think royal blue, yellow, lime green, and citrus orange would be great choices to pair with it.
I tend to buy solid color items because they go with so many things. I’m overcoming my aversion to pattern and learning how to wear it. I can be a little ridiculous about wearing more than one pattern though. For whatever reason, that’s been popular recently. No one likes a floral print with zebra stripes. It’s hideous. Really hideous. Forever 21 has glorified this trend and the hipsters and mini fashionistas have jumped on the band wagon. Personally, I’m staying far away from it. I never saw Jackie Kennedy or Audrey Hepburn rocking this trend so I’m just going to assume that it’s a fad and will look hilarious in photos 20 years from now.
Enjoy your Tuesday! I’m getting back in the work grind right now.
In preparation for Valentine’s Day, I’m rockin’ 50 shades of red (ok more like 3 or 4). I love this holiday because everything is either pink or red and has tons of sparkles on it. My only complaint is that there isn’t a Starbucks drink specifically for this month. Something like a ‘Cherry Jubilee’ has a nice ring to it, don’t you think? At least Nabisco came out with red velvet Oreos for the occasion, which, by the way are amazing!
For this super special day, I’ll be wearing Nars ‘Cruella” for the perfect Taylor Swift-stylepout.It’s very hard for me to wear certain shades of red. My skin tone, lightly bronzed cheeks, and recently-whitened teeth allow me to wear this shade of red. However, this color won’t look good on every girl. I recommend heading to the nearest Sephora and trying on every shade of redin the Nars velvet matte lip collection. I hated shelling out the money for this lip pencil but it really is amazing and the color lasts at least 8 hours. Pro tip: put on a bit of Chapstick before applying lipstick, it really helps keep your lips from chapping while wearing the product all day.
How to Wear Red Lipstick
Here are all the red lip pencils Nars has in their velvet matte collection. The color best suited for you will really depend on the undertones in your skin and your hair color. For me, I have a yellowy undertones in my skin and brunette hair (which is my natural hair color; no highlights here!) so deep, rich shades of red are better for me. If you have red undertones in your skin, then lighter shades might be better on you.
Whatever color you pick, make sure you don’t get any on your teeth! I’ve had this happen so many times and it really is embarrassing. Walking into a restaurant thinking you look super cute and you have red lipstick on your teeth (or worse, just below or above your actual lips) is not a confidence-booster! I’m pretty sure this never happens to Miss Taylor Swift so don’t let it happen to you either!
