Ray-Ban Aviator Look-alikes

Good morning friends! The sun is finally shining here in Kansas City and it feels as though my eyes are burning because I haven’t seen it in so long. Is this how Edward Cullen felt when he sparkled (sorry for the Twilight reference!) The sunlight normally hurts my eyes anyway so I wear sunglasses year-round in effort not to wrinkle my skin from squinting.

Since my birthday was last month, I’ve been trying to figure out what I really want as a birthday gift from my boyfriend. He told me to pick whatever I wanted and he would order it. Of course I went for something expensive (Ray Ban Aviators) until I saw the staggering price tag. I didn’t want him to pay over $150 for something I would inevitably sit on sometime this summer. Instead of ordering the pricey sunnies, I found an inexpensive alternative that is just as cute at Old Navy. These pink aviator mirrored lens with gold trimming go for $12!

I’ve linked a few others that are under $25 for you to browse as well! Hopefully you find something you love! As for my birthday present, I’m still on the hunt! Last Taste of Summer (and what to do with it)

Last Taste of Summer

August is flying by for me and frankly, I’m looking forward to cooler temperatures! I’m going to contradict myself with what I’m about to tell you but I think it needs to be said while it’s still so humid outside. Here it is: Don’t wish away the summer! Don’t wish away the smell of sunscreen or the drippy ice cream cones. Enjoy the season for suntans, flip flops, sandy feet, and BBQs! I love this time of the year even though half way through it I’m ready for fall.

These last few weeks of summer should be savored! If you don’t want to “savor”, stock up on summertime items for next year. Most stores are getting rid of their warmer-weather inventory and it should be on clearance. Swimsuits are all marked down right now and so are beach towels and sunscreen! I was in Kohl’s the other day and combed through a few of the clearance racks for things I had been wanting from earlier in the season. I found a Lauren Conrad ombre maxi dress for $11! I felt like such a winner.

I’d love to know what you all are up to for the rest of the month! Leave me a comment!

Summer Style: Preppy Edition

Summer Prep
Good morning! Here’s a little preppy inspiration for you today! I love this look for summertime. Tee shirts, shorts, and baseball hats are classic Americana. It’s pretty much the only thing I wear during the hot, muggy summer days we have here on the East Coast.

A few things on my summer prep wish list:

-Jack Rogers sandals
-Vineyard Vine tee
-Lilly Pulitzer shorts
-Southern Proper tee

I went into a local preppy themed store and was talking with the owner about cute preppy themed things she should think about selling. She told me that Kiel James Patrick has actually designed a bracelet for her store and she’s debuting it next weekend! For the record, Kiel and his fiance, Sarah, are apparently really nice, down to Earth people. I can’t wait to see the bracelet they designed! I’ll be posting about it next weekend! Enjoy today!

My Airport Necessities and Travel Style

Happy Saturday friends! I’m gettin’ on a jet plane today bound for Charleston, South Carolina! I have my very first in-person job interview on Monday with a local marketing firm and I’m hoping I nail this interview. In the mean time, I’ll be exploring Charleston and getting a feel for the area. But first, I’ve got to make it on time for my flight, get through TSA, and hope my flight is delayed due to the weather. Jet Set Style
DKNY outerwear / Kenzo skinny jeans / Kate spade shoes / Ambassador Luggage Matte Finish Suitcase 20 Inch Carry on Spinner… / Kate spade jewelry / Kate spade jewelry / Rifle Paper Co iphone case, $54 / Ray-Ban aviator sunglasses, $175 / Frends headphone, $275 / Thermal Mug

Airport Necessities

As a seasoned traveler (ok, not really), I’ve learned to expect and prepare for flight delays due to weather, so I make sure to stuff my carry on with things to entertain me for awhile. TSA agents find this in my bag:

  • A fashion magazine (preferably Vogue or Harper’s Bazaar)
  • Bottled water (which they make me throw out)
  • Bubble gum
  • Ear buds
  • Laptop and charger
  • Travel pillow (not just for airplanes)
  • Lilly Pulitzer Agenda (planners gonna plan!)
  • Small make up bag (nothing over 3 oz.)

As far as my airport style goes, I have put a self-ban on sweatpants of any kind. I usually fly out of the DC airports and you never know who is going to be on your flight. Having lived in the capital and been taught the ins and outs of networking, you always have to look your best no matter where you are.

Typically, I wear flats similar to the Kate Spade mules above, dark wash jeans, and soft t shirt with a blazer over it. I’ve been trying to track down a blanket scarf and a cape for ages but can’t seem to find one that isn’t too expensive and in stock. I find that this airport uniform works for all seasons. If it’s winter, I’ll stick my coat in my carry on and wear my blazer, which is what I’m doing right now.

Here’s to looking fabulous on the fly!

Fall Lust List!

Fall Lust List

Hello loves! Yesterday I was browsing through the mall and came across a few common themes for the fall season. I’ll explain them and my thoughts on how they can be styled.

First, the wide brim, floppy, felt hat is a pretty significant statement to make during the fall season. Despite my fear of bold statements, I really do love this hat! I tried one on today at Macy’s and it was wine colored. It look absolutely stunning! Where it with dark wash jeans and a neutral top!

Second, leather driving gloves may be something our grandma’s wore but gosh they are so glassy! I saw them all over the place being worn by young and old alike. The ones pictured only go to the end of your palm in terms of coverage. It looks great when you’re driving! Tres chic!

Third, plaid scarves have always been the uniform of anyone who has ever spent a fall in the north east or mid west. Plaid just says “preppy” to me. I invested in a cute one last year and can’t wait to wear it again!

Fourth, Ray Bans and watches are, and always will be, a classic. However, purchasing gold framed sunglasses brings out the autumn colors while the blue just adds that little boost of color needed.

Fifth, nail polish is my favorite thing. Really, it is! Red wine and forest green are pretty popular this season along with gold and navy blue. Get them before they’re gone!

Finally, “smoking slippers” are apart of the new preppy wardrobe. These are just too cute! I love the gold design. It would look great with dark wash jeans and a neutral top.
