Picnic on the Beach: Summer isn’t Over!

Picnic on the Beach

There’s a few more weeks of summer left and I’m making the most of them! Picnics on the beach are where it’s at! For some of you it may be a little chilly to sport that bikini which is why I’m opting for a great transition outfit like the one above!

Wondering what to pack for a summer-fall picnic? I’ve got your list right here:

1. Seasonal fruit– think apples, pears, cranberries, and figs

2. Chicken salad sandwiches– add some cut up grapes and tiny chunks of apple and you’ve got a great sandwich there!

3. Orange infused water- Beautiful and loaded with Vitamin C for the coming virus season

4. Cheese and crackers– Pepperidge Farm makes a box with a variety of yummy crackers in it which will go great with assorted cheeses like gouda or muenster

5. Caramel corn– Buy it at the grocery store or make your own. It’s a perfect dessert for the beach because it doesn’t require anything extra to be brought with it!

5 Ways to Make Summer Last

keep_calmI can’t believe summer is almost over. It seems like yesterday it just started. All the stores are bringing in their back to school supplies and fall decorations while I sit outside trying to soak in the very last bits of summer sun. Here are 5 things you can do to make summer last just a little bit longer:

1. Soak in the rays- Even if you live in the middle of Kansas take out a towel or beach chair and sit in your backyard or by a lake if you’re lucky enough to have one and just tan. Turn up your music and live like summer lasts forever.

2. Make a fruity drink- I love to make smoothies in the morning. Use a handful of frozen strawberry_smoothiestrawberries and a banana to combine with about a cup and a half of milk. You can add a little sugar for more sweetness. Blend on high for about a minute. Pour it into a pretty little glass and put whipped cream on top!

3. Play the Beach Boys- Nothing says summer like one of these 1960s summertime tunes. A classic for most Americans, the Beach Boys bring the sounds of summer to wherever you are. I could literally listen to them all day. Here’s a link to one of my favorite songs!

4. Go swimsuit shopping- Right now swimwear is so cheap! Buy a cute new suit to save for next year (or the rest of this summer.) I happen to know Target and Old Navy are practically giving theirs away.

summer_picnic5. Go for a picnic- Seriously, enjoy the warm weather because four months from now you’ll be wanting it back. Go in the evening when the sun is setting to avoid the intense heat of the afternoon. Pack up some fruit like pineapple, strawberries, peaches or whatever suits your fancy. Add in fresh bread and some cheese. Finish it off with a glass of white wine or a fizzy drink.

Share with your friends and get together for one last summer bash!

A Touch of Classical

Friday Night Festivities

ConcertI live in a slightly southern area of Maryland. By this I mean that people think they’re born southerners but really have no idea how far north we actually are. They embrace southern values and certainly love the country lifestyle of raising a family on lots of land, four wheeling on the weekends, and sweet tea.

One thing that many of us look forward to in the summer is the River Concert Series near historic St. Mary’s City. Its a lovely event that sits on the water. The orchestra plays lots of classical music and even a few new pieces. Every Friday night is a new theme. Last night it was Bach. Fourth of July weekend it will be Big Band music and the 1812 Overture in sync to fireworks over the water!
