First Photos with a Nikon D3300

It’s finally the weekend! Time for brunches, late nights, and my graduation! Saturday morning I’ll be receiving my diploma and throwing my graduation cap in the air! I can’t wait for this moment. The last four years of my life have been dedicated to becoming a better version of myself and filling this beautiful brain God gave me with knowledge, wisdom, and really great stories to tell.

As part of my graduation gift from my parents, they bought me a Nikon D3300 so I can take beautiful pictures to fill my blog with! I drug my wonderful photographer, William, out to the boardwalk near my house for a photoshoot. The pictures turned out amazing! I’m wearing a Lauren Conrad for Kohl’s dress and my necklace is Ann Taylor. Both items I got on clearance!

My heels are from Rampage. I’m a firm believer that the most basic shoe a girl should have in her closet is nude pumps or kitten heel. The Duchess of Cambridge never leaves home without them!

My watch was a beautiful birthday gift I got about a month ago. Kate Spade really outdid herself with this sparkly thing!

The sunset was really nice the other night and provided some great soft lighting to take pictures with. Lately, I’ve been wearing this bright red Nars lip stick everywhere and this was the perfect opportunity to show it off!

Let me know what you think of my outfit and the pictures! I’m so grateful for this camera and the memories I hope it will capture!

Taking Photos for Instagram or a Blog? Here are 8 Things You Need

Do you want to know one major thing I’ve noticed amongst all big-time bloggers, Instagrammers, and Etsy-ers? They all know how to take great photos and use props to enhance them. If I had a dollar for every time I saw a photo on Instagram using something sparkly or something with texture I’d be driving a convertible.

Seriously though, what makes some of their photos so great? It’s how they set them up. Here are 8 props you can add to your blog/Instagram pictures right now!

Props for Pictures

The number one thing people seem to be using is sequins or glitter! As annoying as those little things can be at times (they stick to everything), they really make a photo look pretty! Sprinkle them around the key items in your photo for an added pop of cuteness.

Another thing I’m seeing is colorful paper straws. This was especially popular over the summer. Etsy store owners are laying them beside their prints and artwork as a way to enhance the colors in the art.

To illustrate the business of their day, bloggers are using stationery and notebooks. You’ll see these items on their desks laid out as if they were mistakenly left there.

Flowers, particularly Peonies, are being included in photos as a natural way to enhance and add color to an otherwise neutral palette.

Candles have been making appearances in many Instagrammers “lounging around” type photos. You know the pictures I mean- where the picture includes the bottom half of her pj pants, socks, coffee, laptop, twinkly lights, and a lit candle.

Expensive make up is also being haphazardly laid on a desk or vanity. If the item the blogger wants to highlight is pink, then she’ll use pink lipstick. If it’s gold, she might use red lipstick.

Finally, macarons are here to stay and for good reason- they photograph nicely. With this pastry, there isn’t much to capture other than the edges of these delicate treats. They sit in a picture to fill up space but they look awfully darling doing it!

Lately, I’ve also been using coffee mugs, jewelry trays, and jewelry in my pictures for Instagram. It seems to work depending on the quality of the image. A key element is having natural light. No fluorescent lighting! Ever. It adds a yellow glow to the image instead of a nice white one. A white background is also best.

Autumn Decorating

Hello loves! First of all, I want to say thank you to everyone who has liked or commented on things recently. I’ve been so busy and haven’t had time to respond hardly at all and I sincerely apologize for this! I have a lot of things going at once and a few fun things I’m working on for the blog, which you will see soon.

pumpkin_pickingYesterday, I spent a few hours around the house decorating for Halloween this weekend. I love pumpkins and cute/spooky things on display for the season. I also might add that I’m so proud of myself for only drinking 3 pumpkin spice lattes this season! Despite being surrounded by pumpkin things for the last month I have stayed strong!

Anyway, I want to give you all a peak inside my house to see what decorating I’ve done so I’m including some photos below! Most of these decorations come from Michael’s craft stores. Hint: things are going on clearance there right now because they’re moving Christmas stuff in! Now’s the time to stock up on decorations for next year and not spend a fortune!

Autumn and Halloween can be the best time of the year to decorate. It can be whimsical, rustic, natural, spooky, or sparkly themed. I absolutely love the ideas I find on Pinterest for the season. I’m linking my own “Everything Autumn” Pinterest board so you can check out some of the cute things I’ve pinned on there that I’m dying to try!

Hope you enjoyed the photos! Be sure to follow me on Instagram and Pinterest!

Sunset in the Country

I went on a walk with my mom on a near by country road here in Maryland the other day. The sun was starting to set and the temperature was close to perfect. I love days like this. The horses in the fields apparently did too. They were running and whinnying when we walked by them.

As much as I enjoy the city and urban areas I really do appreciate the country also. Not much noise and room to spread out. I don’t like being able to see into my neighbor’s bathroom window. Living in Washington, D.C. in the past has shown me how wonderful privacy can be. There’s nothing more annoying than taking a shower and having a window that peers into the home next to yours and feeling like you have to hide in order to avoid anyone who might also be showering across the way. On the up side though, it can be entertaining to see what they’re up to if you happen to be nosy!

Anyway, here’s a few photos from our beautiful walk. I can’t wait to post images of the leaves when they start to change color. The whole forest looks like it’s on fire!

The Power of Pastels

pastel_colorsYesterday was a perfect day for sporting pastel colors. It was grocery shopping day and to add some life to an otherwise dull event, I decided the only sensible solution was to look cute. In this outfit, it literally makes me glow because it’s so bright with pastel colors and the sun reflecting off of them!

Like I’ve said in previous posts, in my town you can go pretty much anywhere in sweats or jeans and a t-shirt. I still like to dress up a little more because it’s good for my mental health and self-confidence.

For this outfit, I’m wearing a New York & Company pastel purple top, white J Crew shorts, Rampage sandals, gold Aldo ring, and a New York & Company necklace. Everything I found on clearance in the past year. I can’t guarantee that these things are still available so I’ve found a few other items that are comparable and affordable.

My biggest tip though? Wait for everything to be cut down to at least 50% off. I never buy full priced items unless it’s a staple piece that I want to last for a really long time. With tops and jewelry like what I’m wearing, you can afford to be a little more picky with how much you spend because before you know it the trend will be over and you didn’t waste a lot of your money.
