The Color for Spring

color for spring

Today I woke up and was excited to see the sun shining outside of my window but I was a bit disappointed when I walked onto my porch and felt the familiar crisp air grabbing at my skin. Since spring is not too far off, I feel like its appropriate to start thinking about the cute clothes that comes with this vibrant season! Being that my skin tone is more suited with colors that are prevalent in autumn, I miss out on wearing all the pretty pastels in March and April. However, I found one spring color that compliments me- coral! From what I’ve read, it will be this season’s ‘it’ color.

The ‘It’ Color of the Season

I like to start my seasonal shopping early when stores are pushing sales and promotions to get things moving on the sales floor. For your convenience, I’m linking a few of my favorite coral pieces featured above! Some of them are on sale too!

Splurge Items Under $30

inexpensive nordstrom

Good morning everyone! Here’s hoping your day is full of sunshine and smiles! I’ve been working harder lately to see the silver lining in everything and force myself to smile even when I don’t feel like it. It helps to be around people that radiate positivity and encouragement as opposed to pessimism (I bring enough of that to the table sometimes.) The last few weeks have been stressful and full of transition. Everyone has their own way of coping with difficult periods and unfortunately mine is spending money… and coloring in adult coloring books, but that’s another story.

Nordstrom on a Budget

In an effort to control my purse strings and save myself from financial ruin, I’ve opted to enjoy window shopping and pretend like I don’t have any money to spend, which isn’t too far from the truth! However, I realize that every once in a while we all deserve a little splurge item to enjoy. I scoured the Nordstrom website for the best “treat yourself” items that won’t break the bank. Shop a few of my favorites under $30 below!

Capes and Ponchos under $100

Over the Labor Day weekend I made the stupid mistake of walking into Saks Fifth Avenue to do a little retail therapy. Relax, I didn’t spend a dime! I was in search of the perfect cape/poncho to wear for the fall. Upon nearing the ‘new arrivals’ section in the women’s department, the sales associate reminded me that Saks was having wonderful sales for the holiday weekend. I politely smiled and thanked her while secretly thinking “Ooh 20% off things that are still too expensive! I think I’m good.” Still, I like to look and do a bit of day dreaming.

I found several capes for the fall that I really liked. Of course they were all over $100 (and that was on the low end). I sighed a little sigh of contempt and walked away. I went home and started Googling capes that were a little closer to my budget and I found this adorable one ($38!) via ‘The Sweetest Thing’ blog! Usually, I can’t identify with the author, Emily, because her style is very expensive. Valentino is her go-to shoe and I just can’t afford anything close to that. This time however, I was pleasantly surprised!

Knowing me, I’ll probably end up browsing my TJ Maxx and Marshall’s to find capes even cheaper, but sometimes even I give up and pay the full price, especially if it’s good quality. If you’ve seen any capes that are a good price leave me a comment and link below!

Cozy Winter Style

snow_in_southern_maryland Tuesday snuck up on me and so did Monday. My weekends are going so fast for some reason. I woke up yesterday and was shocked that it was over. I went out to run some errands and get my coffee when I was greeted with another surprise: white flurries falling from the sky. The weatherman had called for snow but they always make a big deal out of nothing. Driving home was all sorts of interesting as Marylanders creeped along on the highways so they wouldn’t skid. We aren’t used to this white stuff.

When I got home, I camped out in front of the fire and cuddled the kitty. In weather like this, having the proper warm, cozy equipment is crucial! I’ve rounded up a few of my favorite winter weather things for making this snow storm that much lovelier!
