Channeling Our Inner Audrey

how_to_be_audrey_hepburnI’ve always been an Audrey Hepburn fan, and apparently so has Kim Kardashian, or so it appears. In a new ad for Hype energy drinks, Kim channels her inner Audrey Hepburn while riding a bicycle similar to the famous photos of Audrey on the set of “Sabrina”.

Quite honestly, I’m not a fan of this ad. Audrey is famous for her movies and Kim is famous for… “home” movies and her rather large bum. It was a good try on Kim’s part, but she has her own brand and it makes no sense for her to attempt a look that doesn’t line up with it. Maybe she should try for Madonna next time. It’s a little closer to her brand.

For those of us who aren’t know for our bums or anything else, we can try to recreate the adorable outfits Hepburn has been famously photographed in. Better yet, create your own classics. To do this, I’m buying black, white, and red. I’ve always believed that classic clothing is the best, most economical choice a woman can make. Having the basics in your closet is the one thing I recommend you spend a little extra on because they’ll last for many seasons. Plus, you don’t have to worry about the latest trends because you’re always in style anyway. I truly believe that “trendy is one step away from tacky.” Why do people recreate Audrey’s outfits? Because they’re still stylish and classy!

Red lipstick, fitted trousers, pearls, little black dresses, and so many other signature Audrey items are still up for grabs even now as staples for every woman’s wardrobe. Embrace them, just not in the way Kim did.

First Day of a New Job

First Day
Today is the first official day of my new job! I’ve worked so hard to get to where I’m at today and I can’t wait to see where this journey will take me. I’ll be rocking stilettos and red lip stick just in case any of you were wondering. I have a closet full of work-appropriate clothing that I’ve been dying to wear for the last few months and I’m thrilled that today I can start wearing them again. When it comes to first day outfits, I like to appear professional but feminine. I chose this pink blazer and navy pencil skirt because it embodies both of those things. Women tend to think that in order to be respected in the workplace they need to be just as “hardcore” as the men. I believe that we should embrace our femininity and use it to our advantage. It’s what make us beautiful and powerful!

Fall Lust List!

Fall Lust List

Hello loves! Yesterday I was browsing through the mall and came across a few common themes for the fall season. I’ll explain them and my thoughts on how they can be styled.

First, the wide brim, floppy, felt hat is a pretty significant statement to make during the fall season. Despite my fear of bold statements, I really do love this hat! I tried one on today at Macy’s and it was wine colored. It look absolutely stunning! Where it with dark wash jeans and a neutral top!

Second, leather driving gloves may be something our grandma’s wore but gosh they are so glassy! I saw them all over the place being worn by young and old alike. The ones pictured only go to the end of your palm in terms of coverage. It looks great when you’re driving! Tres chic!

Third, plaid scarves have always been the uniform of anyone who has ever spent a fall in the north east or mid west. Plaid just says “preppy” to me. I invested in a cute one last year and can’t wait to wear it again!

Fourth, Ray Bans and watches are, and always will be, a classic. However, purchasing gold framed sunglasses brings out the autumn colors while the blue just adds that little boost of color needed.

Fifth, nail polish is my favorite thing. Really, it is! Red wine and forest green are pretty popular this season along with gold and navy blue. Get them before they’re gone!

Finally, “smoking slippers” are apart of the new preppy wardrobe. These are just too cute! I love the gold design. It would look great with dark wash jeans and a neutral top.

The Chic Uniform

The Chic Uniform

The chic uniform of women all over the world starts with a great blazer and ends with the perfect accessories. Though I’m not an expert and certainly don’t work for Vogue, I can pretty much guarantee that this look and styling will always be used.

On a special note, the pink blazer can be just as chic in a hot pink color or magenta. I realize not everyone looks great in pale pink (I know I don’t). I can wear salmon and deep pink colors but nothing in between.

Pink for Summer Makeup

Pink for Summer

“Whoever said orange was the new pink was seriously disturbed!” Oh Elle Woods, you have the best quotes. But seriously, pink is so signature for summer. Last summer, coral tried to take over and that didn’t last (though I like the color). I’ve put together a little palette of my favorite shades of pink and different ways to wear them.

By no means am I insinuating that every girl can afford these expensive brands. Unlike some fashion/beauty bloggers, I understand that $40 lipstick is out of reach for most girls. Heck, Revlon lipstick is becoming a tad too pricey for me. I have found suitable alternatives to these fancy products at Target (I would say Wal-Mart but half the time people open the make up to test it first. Ew!).

Some of my favorite brands are ELF, NYC, Rimmel London, and Nyx. I also have noticed that towards the end of each season, they seem to put a lot of their make up on sale. Keep that in mind next time you’re in need of new beauty products!
