Styling a Sweatshirt

It’s one of those mornings that has me wanting to stay in bed for an extra hour. Actually, that’s every morning! What is it about waking up that leaves me feeling anything but refreshed? Even though I’m a girl who loves clothes, you’d be surprised how difficult it is to get me dressed everyday! If you’re lucky enough to work in an environment that doesn’t require a pencil skirt, then you might be able to get away with my favorite relaxed look!

Cute sweatshirts and the perfect denim jeans (my favorites are the “Brooke Skinny” from Lucky Brand) make for a great comfy outfit. It’s the standard uniform for moms and teens alike, but I’m here to class it up a bit! Quite honestly, there’s a lot you can do with these basic outfit components. Adding a scarf or faux fur vest can be a chic way to create interest in an outfit, but my favorite way to accessorize a sweatshirt is by adding a statement necklace!

The one I’m wearing is from Ann Taylor and the purple pairs so nicely with the pink in my sweatshirt. Statement necklaces shouldn’t compete with the outfit, they should complement it instead! When I see a great statement necklace that can be worn with several things in my closet, I invest. The trick to wearing these with sweatshirts is making sure that they are long enough to wear over the sweatshirt so they can be seen and not hidden by fabric. Ann Taylor Bargain Buy

Good morning lovelies! I had to drag myself out of bed this morning, I was so comfy and warm! Alas, all good things must come to end.  I got out of bed, made my bed, got my coffee, and started getting dressed. Lucky for you, I have an awesome outfit to share that came at a fabulous price!

This adorable dark green and black dress came from Ann Taylor a few months back. The original price on the tag was $120 but I bought it on clearance for $4.88! Yes, you read that right, the dress was under $5 and I bought it straight off the Ann Taylor racks. This dress is beyond flattering and hits at all the right places. It is a thicker material so I’m looking forward to fall little black dress parties where I can sport this number.

My shoes are also from Ann Taylor ($25 on clearance). I love them because they go with everything and have a nice sound to them when you’re walking on a hard surface. The sound of heels clicking, is rather soothing to me.

The lipstick is my signature red in Nars’ Cruella. I’ve said so many times but I live by this lipstick. It’s the best!

Today, I’m headed into my company’s office to work from there and wanted to look presentable. Our work atmosphere is very laid back and enjoyable, but I still like to look nice an the days where I’m close quarters with coworkers and supervisors. You only have one shot to make a good impression and hopefully I’ve made mine.

That’s one thing I wish more people would learn about the workplace. Just because the dress code is “business casual” doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t dress up a bit. Dress for the job you want and not the job you have! Be the person that you want to be, not the one you aren’t too impressed with.

Coffee Mug Lust List

Thank God it’s Friday! I love this day probably a little too much. I think we all do though. Friday nights during the summer are just the best! Summer nights in general are the best though. I’m sitting on my deck right now sipping my morning coffee and listening to the sounds of construction going on in the building next to me. Gotta love it. Nothing can bring me down though, I’ve got my coffee!

Relaxation on a Monday Morning

Good morning! The last week has been a roller coaster of emotions and crazy schedules to balance. I apologize that I haven’t been posting nearly as much as I normally do. Life just gets in the way of life sometimes. It demands so much of our attention! Sometimes you need to just sit back and learn to take it as it comes. Expect nothing and prepare for everything.

Part of my Monday morning routine is to do a little pampering. I get up earlier than usual and just enjoy my morning coffee and a nice, long shower. Here’s what’s in my bath right now:

 

I’m loving exfoliating loofahs and gloves. They work wonders on my skin. It feels so much cleaner after I scrub my skin with it. I use the Bath and Body Works Eucalyptus ‘Stress Relief’ shower gel and I feel so relaxed after smelling it for awhile. It’s very therapeutic! I also love Pecksniff’s England shower gel for when the Eucalyptus is a little too strong for me.

It may sound silly, but I love to light a candle while I’m in the shower or tub for added ambiance and relaxation. Am I a stereotypical girl or what?

For my face, I use Botanics facial cleansing cream. I found it at Target on sale and I love it! I can barely put anything on my face because I break out. This is an organic cleanser, so everything is natural and you won’t be putting chemicals all over your beautiful skin!

My last two loves for the shower are from Lush. The bath bomb is their “Avo-Bomb” and it’s all natural ingredients! I also like their soap “Miranda” for it’s citrus smell. Lush can be pricey, but their products are really great!

Mornings With Liz

Hello beauties! Yesterday was a long day that used up most of my energy, whence why I didn’t write anything to share with you. Today, is my recovery day so to speak. I slept like a baby last night and literally just woke up. I’ve determined that mornings should be done differently in this country. The waking up at the crack of dawn, barely choking down a bowl of cereal, and mad dash to work isn’t a healthy way to live each day. I propose a new kind of morning!

Does this kind of a morning not look infinitely better than the kind you and I are used to? I’m all for #hustle as long as we can still enjoy our lives. It’s mind boggling to me that we have to live our personal lives around a 9-5 schedule. Why is that? Based on what I’ve noticed in my job search, more and more companies are realizing that this kind of work life isn’t conducive with how people live today. Many companies are starting to value flex hours (employees pick the times they work). As long as work is getting done, I think it’s a great idea!

The 9-5 schedule used to work for Americans. As years have gone by though, we are getting increasingly busy and have more on our plates than ever before. If you have kids, you know how true this is! Shuffling them from school to practices and to friend’s houses is just exhausting. Combine that with having to work around a strict schedule of business hours and you’ll be feeling defeated.

Our mornings should be beautiful. A good breakfast, hot coffee, the day’s paper, a nice workout, and happier drive to work with less road rage would be so lovely, don’t you think?
