New Ways to Style Jeans for Fall

Happy Wednesday and first day of autumn! I’ve seriously been looking forward to this day for quite some time. It means I can decorate my apartment without feeling like I’m jumping the gun or trying to get rid of my other favorite season- summer! Now that I can officially start the pumpkin spice latte season and wear some of my favorite fall clothes, I figured I’d focus a blog post on my favorite elements of autumn style: denim and new ways to style it.

Denim is an American classic that will never go away. My favorite brand of jeans is Lucky Brand. If you can get to one of their outlets, they always have really great deals on their clearance jeans like an additional 50% off the clearance prices! The Lucky Brand style I’m wearing here is the dark wash Charlie Skinny. These jeans are my go-to for everything! They’re easy to wear, the color doesn’t fade, and they go with everything.

During the fall, jeans are worn most often with classic Tory Burch riding boots and short booties. To mix it up a bit, I paired my Lucky Brand jeans with these nude Nine West kitten heels I found over the weekend! Nordstrom Rack has a great selection of shoes on mark down to choose from. These sling back kitten heels were normally $80 and I bought them half off! I cuffed the hem of each pant leg for an added touch of style.

Cuffed jeans with kitten heels isn’t something I’d normally associate with fall, but here in Dallas, the temperatures haven’t dropped much so this is a simple way to enjoy my denim while keeping cool! I’ll be wearing this combo for the next few weeks- probably with a cardigan when it finally gets a little cooler (meaning 80 degrees instead of 95). Styling a Floppy Hat

Happy Monday! I can’t believe how chilly it’s starting to get! Last week it was in the 60s and this morning it’s 40 degrees. Dressing for this weather can be really difficult. I’ve been sitting around the house applying for jobs in sweat pants and hoodies, so I haven’t had the dressing and layering issues you guys have had. Sipping coffee all day and job hunting isn’t something you need to dress up for!

How to Wear a Floppy Hat

Despite my sweat pant wearing days, I do like to have a little pep in my step when I go out! Sitting at home all day is probably the worst thing you can do for your mood. I have a closet full of pretty things to wear and am determined to wear them. One of the things that has been sitting on my shelf and tempting my cat to sit on is this great felt floppy hat. I bought it back in October and hadn’t worn it once! It has sat there for weeks and on more than one occasion my kitty, Puddin’, has tried to make a little bed on top of it. I finally decided to pull it out and wear it!

Styling it was harder than I thought. They’ve been in all the stores and fashion blogs so I assumed I could wear it with anything. After trying it on with several different outfits, I settled on a simple pair of jeans, tank top, sweater, and boots. How basic, right? Whatever, fall is the best season for basic girls like me, so I’m going to own it!

lucky brand review

Like I said, there are many stores selling these hats but I found this one at Old Navy. I’ve seen similar ones in Kohl’s, TJ Maxx, and a few other department stores. It’s one of those items that will probably only be popular this season, therefore I wouldn’t invest much money in one. Here’s a link to felt floppy hats under $25.

Steve madden boots

The rest of my outfit was simple. My jeans are from Lucky Brand, which I highly recommend! I’ve worn quite a few pairs of jeans in my day, but this brand is the most comfortable and long lasting. They are expensive if you don’t shop their clearance section often. I bought this pair (the Brooke Skinny in size 8) for $32! (Read my Golden Rules for Shopping). They’re a great jean to tuck into boots like these ones from Steve Madden. They were another bargain find from long ago!

J Crew statement necklace

Last but not least, the outfit was pulled together with a pretty statement necklace from J Crew and this faux fur sweater from Hollister. Yes, I still buy a thing or two from this high school haven as long as there aren’t seagulls all over it.

The Campus Safari

Campus SafariHappy Friday everyone! Enjoy the last few of em’ before school starts again! I’m pretty sure a bunch of you are headed back to campus and part of me is jealous. I loved being at school and even enjoyed the dorm life. Since I graduated in May, I’m going to reminisce for a little while. Before I do that, I’m leaving you with this adorable back to school look. I think the safari style jackets (or military style if you prefer) are going to be pretty popular this fall. I’m definitely falling in love with them. They’re a great transition item to have while you’re waiting for serious fall weather to start. I’ll let you know when I find a good deal on them!

I’m loving a leather backpack too! I used to love tote bags for lugging by stuff across campus but I’ve since determined that it’s absolutely terrible for your back. A cute pack like the one above is a great, classy alternative to the tote.

Let me know if you find either of these items on sale anywhere!

Long Weekend Style

I hope you all enjoyed your extra day off yesterday (for those of you who are in the States!) I certainly took advantage of the three-day weekend and all the sales that were going on. I ended up scoring a Lauren Conrad dress from her fall collection for $12, Lauren Conrad jeans for $20, and a Cynthia Rowley maxi skirt for $16. The sales are the best part of the festivities that typically go on during Memorial Day weekend. Here’s a little look into my weekend!

I spent Memorial Day on the beach with my parents and got a lovely sunburn on my left shoulder. Bring on the Aloe!

For our little local beach, there was quite the turnout of beach goers. It was hilarious to watch the kids get in the water, which was freezing, and splash each other, freak out of something touched their foot, or get sand in their pants.

Flip flops in the sand are the best thing in the world to me. I usually buy white or gray sandals because they go with everything. I think these ones are from Payless.

For the beach I sported this shorts and tank top combo from Old Navy. I got the shorts last October for $1.47! Shop summer clothes for the next year starting in mid-August when retailers are really trying to get rid of warm-weather clothes so they have room for the back-to-school stuff.

My jeans are from Lucky Brand and my top is Old Navy, both of which I shopped for in the off season and got amazing deals on.

My dear friend, Abbey, gave these gorgeous earrings to me and I have no idea where they’re from. I love wearing them with other bold colors like the yellow top I’m wearing.

This long weekend was so desperately needed. I’m thrilled that I got to spend so much time just relaxing and doing nothing. I hope we get through this week without too much pain. No guarantees though. Enjoy you’re Tuesday!

Making a Uniform Cute

hermes_knockoffClassing up a uniform is so hard to do. I took a part-time job a few months ago that requires we wear black pants and a white button down oxford with a black apron. Thankfully, I will only have to work retail until I graduate in December (as long as I can find a job where I can actually USE my degree). However, upon first putting on this uniform I was slightly appalled at its blandness. Really, white shirt and black pants? How original. Naturally, I had to class it up a bit and make it a little more fashion forward.

In keeping with the black pants I bought black skinny jeans at Lucky Brand for $30 on sale at their outlet store! My top is a light weight cotton blend from Banana Republic I found on clearance a few years ago. Since I wear a little apron, no one knows it isn’t a button down. My boots are from Etienne Aigner and I found them at Marshall’s for $45 and I’ve had them since 2012. Finally, my scarf I found at Ross for $6. The thing I love about scarves like these is that they’re similar to ones made by Heremes and Ralph Lauren without the price tag. Believe me, I’ve fooled many people with that scarf!

I’ve also learned to incorporate pretty earrings into the uniform as well as fabulous nail colors. I’ve also rocked a black pencil skirt on occasion. However you can accessorize, do it and own it!

jack_skellington_halloween On another note, when I got home from work today my sister, Becca, was carving a pumpkin in the shape of Jack Skellington from the Nightmare Before Christmas. She used a stencil for a little while until she got tired of it and then went on by herself! I’m debating what I should carve into my pumpkin. It will either be Tinker Bell or my own monogram just because it would be really cute! What will your jack-o-lantern look like?
