Valentine’s Day Gift Ideas for Him

Since Valentine’s Day is next Saturday, I thought now would be the perfect time to give you all some ideas for what to get the man in your life. I promise I’m not blindly going into this without any idea on what men might actually want. I consulted my trusted advisor (and cousin), Drew. He shared with me a few things guys might actually enjoy getting. Here are my results.

  1. Basic belt- I took the liberty of running with the belt idea and put a nautical twist to it. This leather and cord belt can be found at Orvis.
  2. Cell phone case- People are clumsy, men are clumsier. Get him a phone case to protect from all the dropping and scratching his phone receives.
  3. Boxers- Ok, I confess, I added this one in. My cousin never mentioned these. However, people like feeling comfy in their undergarments/lounge clothes and these look way comfier than briefs. My favorite prints (like the ones pictured) can be found at Abercrombie.
  4. Shave kit- If you want a clean-shaven man, then make sure he has the good stuff to shave with.
  5. Coffee mug- Aren’t I clever with this one? Not really, but I still love it. He may find it too sweet to bring in the office, but your Sunday morning coffee time will finally have the perfect mug.
  6. Leather wrap bracelet- Bracelets aren’t just for women, men can make them look just as good. This leather wrap from Kiel James Patrick is great for the boy who grew up on the coast.
  7. North Face Jacket- For the guy who loves the outdoors, a great fleece North Face might be the perfect gift. Certain times of the year Dick’s Sporting Goods puts them on sale!
  8. Quality headphones- Target has a few different kinds on sale right now especially for Valentine’s day but these were my favorite. Everyone has earbuds, but not many people invest in quality listening devices.
  9. Coffee beans- Most men drink coffee and enjoy something of a finer quality than Folger’s coffee. Spoil him with Starbucks beans to make every morning just a little bit better.
  10. Cologne- I love Burberry Brit for men. That deep, manly, luxurious smell is the best thing in the world to me. Nordstrom usually has a great selection of cologne that varies in price to fit almost any budget. Ralph Lauren also has a great selection to choose from.

Good luck girls! Let me know how your special day goes!

Guy’s Guide to Valentine’s Day

Good morning lovelies! I’m super excited to share with you (and for you to share with the man in your life) my favorite gifts for Valentine’s Day! The traditional chocolates and roses are my favorite out of everything I mention in this blog post, but for those of us who like to be spoiled I came up with a few items and even a little graphic so you can share it on your Facebook wall and tag a certain someone in it!

Gentlemen, please turn your attention to me as I walk you through everything. I promise that you’ll be safe if you use my guidance and suggestions. I realize (and so will you sooner or later) that some of this stuff is just too expensive to buy, which is why you must understand that these are suggestions and by no means the only way to make a girl happy. However, if you want to blow her expectations out of the water, you might consider a few of my ideas!

  • Miss Dior Perfume- Seriously, what girl wouldn’t love perfume like this on the most romantic day of the year? Gents, you can find this perfume at Nordstrom’s and also Sephora. I’d suggest places like but for quality assurance, go to a department store.
  • Jo Malone candle- Candles are romantic and cozy. Girls love romantic and cozy! Jo Malone candles are packaged pretty and smell divine! Saks 5th Avenue has a whole selection online. If this is a bit out of your price range, try a Bath & Body Works candle!
  • Kate Spade Wallet- If your lady is like me, she’s in love with Kate Spade! While getting her a bag may be a little over-the-top, a wallet could be just the ticket! This is my favorite wallet they have in stock. You can’t go wrong with it.
  • Pink Roses- Red roses are lovely, but pink seems so much more youthful!
  • Coffee Mug- For the young professional woman, coffee is her lifeline. This adorable mug will remind her she’s beautiful everyday.
  • Chocolate-Covered Strawberries- Whether you make them yourself or buy them from Godiva, this is much better twist on the traditional box of chocolates (and it tastes better too!) As much as our moms enjoyed the box of Russell Stover goodies, we like something a little different.
  • Champagne- This goes so well with those strawberries I mentioned! Don’t forget the champagne flutes! Pop fizz clink!

My last suggestion to you men is regardless of what you give her or do for her, write her a letter. Not a text or an email, an actual letter. It doesn’t have to be ridiculously sappy or dramatic, it only needs to be filled with the things you appreciate about her. List them, bullet point them, whatever you do just write what’s on your heart!

Blog Inspiration!

When I wake up in the morning, the first thing on my mind is “what do I write about” (after coffee of course). I’m sure other bloggers feel the same way I do when they feel like there isn’t anything to write about. It’s basic writer’s block. What do we do to get past this? We find inspiration! This is mine for the day and I hope this will inspire you too! Sparkles, pinks, golds, and Vogue of course make for a big smile on my face and a renewed sense of what I love!

Medieval Times Review (and a day on the water)

Saturdays are always good aren’t they? Ok, maybe not. Luckily for me, my Saturday was pretty darn good. I went to a little beach near my hometown and laid on the sand for a few hours listening to music and eating fruit. The sun was strong and the breeze was stronger. The water was a great temperature and judging by the crabs awkwardly walking along the shore they enjoyed the sun and water too. It was such a lovely day.

A big surprise and unplanned event occurred when an older man pulled up on his jet ski and parked it along the shore. He offered me a ride on the river to which I happily said yes. I put on a life jacket and then got on the back of the jet ski. He warned me that it could go pretty fast and to hold on. He wasn’t kidding when he said it went fast. We were at a cruising speed of about 50 mph and going through the wakes of other people’s boats we hit 75 mph. What a thrill ride that was! Sadly, I have no pictures only a great memory of fulfilling my need for speed.

Man in the right hand corner on his horse is our knight!

Later that afternoon a handsome boy I recently got to know took me to Medieval Times- a place I had heard about my entire life but never managed to get to. It was very theatrical! I was impressed. Some people really have a flair for being in the spotlight.

The performance began with the King of the court presenting each of his knights and the section of the arena they represented (our knight was blue). Each knight was then given several challenges that tested his skills and abilities. These guys were pretty good! Their horses were even better! Most of the knights had dapple gray horses as their trusted steeds. The horses also demonstrated their abilities in terms of obeying commands and dancing. They were gorgeous to watch.

After this, the knights were given more difficult tasks to accomplish including jousting. It was so entertaining to watch someone get knocked off of their horse.medieval_times_horses The effort they put into making it look elegant was incredible. I would have fallen off with a thud and then freaked out. I was never very good at riding though. The first time I got on a horse I got on backwards. Oops. That was awkward. Ok, moving on…

Finally, at the end of the tournament the king selected the knight he thought did jousting_competition the best. Our blue knight won! It was such a Disney “dreams do come true” moment because the knight then chose a girl out of our section to make his princess for the day. He chose a little girl named Lilly and gave her a crown, sash, and rose. It was the most adorable thing to watch! That kid’s face lit up the room. Such a sweetheart!

Chris and I!

I feel like I’m forgetting an important element here. Oh yeah, food. How could I forget? It was quite tasty even though you had to eat with only your hands- no utensils! They didn’t have silverware in the 11th century so we used the next best thing. Our starter course was garlic bread and dragon’s blood (tomato bisque soup). After this course the servers brought out “baby dragon” for the main course. It was roasted chicken breast marinated in rosemary, lemon, and pepper. Additionally, they gave us the option of having a baked potato with dinner. The dessert was a favorite of mine- apple turnover! Warm, gooey, cinnamon apple chunks falling out of a puff pastry is just such a great way to end a dinner.

This place was really charming and lots of fun and laughs. People of all ages were there so it isn’t just for children. There were some frat boys sitting near us who seemed to be having far too much fun! It was definitely an evening worth remembering.

Tell me about any experiences you’ve had similar to this. I’d love to hear from you!

What to Wear for a Night Out

Date Night

Going out with friends or on a date is always a great occasion to dress up! And I love to! As always, a little black dress is the classiest choice a woman can make. Adding some gold to that dress is even better. I have a warmer skin tone, so gold tones are better on me. People with lighter tones might consider silver instead.

Some may call it a faux pa, but I love a hint of navy with black. It just adds a little pizazz and mystery. You might also consider a deep, earthy red if navy isn’t your thing. Complete this look with a musky, feminine perfume and you’ve got yourself a hot outfit!
