Kentucky Derby 2015 Style

kentucky_derby_outfitHappy hump day lovelies! I’m counting down days until the weekend when all of my fun can start! In the mean time, let’s focus on something important that will be here before we know it: the Kentucky Derby. One of the oldest sporting events in America, this year horse lovers, millionaires, and preppy college students will flock to the racetrack on May 2nd!

In a previous post, I talked about my trip to the Derby in 2013. While it was memorable, I won’t be going back until I can get in an executive club suite to wait for the races to start. For those of you who are going this year, I suggest wearing this new Lilly Pulitzer shift that just came out! Bright, flamboyant colors are very appropriate for this day as ladies (and a few gents) go big or go home for the event. If there’s no rain in the forecast, try wearing espadrille wedges in a muted color like these Jack Rogers. Accessories wise, you can never go wrong with Kendra Scott! These earrings bring out the green in the dress beautifully.

Here’s the most important part of the outfit: the hat. Women wear some pretty incredible hats as part of the Kentucky Derby tradition. As someone who spent more time hanging out with other college-aged girls under the Vineyard Vines tent in the infield, I can tell you that this age group stuck to their monogrammed, wide-brimmed floppy hats. Older age groups wore more eccentric hats. The hat I featured is from The Palm Gifts.

Let me know if you plan on going to the Derby this year! I’d love to know what you’re wearing!

What Saturdays are for

Saturdays Shopping

My favorite part about the weekend is that I can go out shopping and eating with friends. I love farmer’s markets like Eastern Market in Washington, D.C. I also love finding cute little cafes to get my coffee at and then a glamorous place for brunch later on. Going boutique shopping or even outlet shopping is also something I love spending my weekends doing even if I don’t buy a thing.

This look was inspired by the warm summer colors I love so much and the plaids that become a staple for New Englanders in the fall. It’s a great transition look. I’m still holding onto summer for as long as I can.

This weekend I hope some of you get to go out and enjoy the fabulous shopping and dining around your cities. I’ll be sitting in my room doing homework and gulping down coffee while rocking out to my new favorite song- Hideaway by Kiesza! Seriously, it’s easy to get in the mood to do anything with this song playing.

Speaking of getting in the mood to do things, here’s a little sample of my top 5 things I need to do this weekend:

1. Finish my paper and take my quizzes
2. Clean out my closet
3. Exercise (hoping to find a kick boxing program on Netflix)
4. Organize my Lilly planner a little better
5. Relax with my Pinterest and a latte

If only there were more hours in the day… first world problems. Tell me what you’re up to this weekend in the comments below!

Outfit for Weekends (tres chic)!

On the Town

There’s something nice about the weekends and wearing a cute little outfit that can go from day to night. I’m such a lover of white jeans with peplum tops at the moment too! I really like doing neutrals like these tans and whites and adding color in one particular place. Sometimes makeup is a great way to do this, particularly when using a bright shade of lipstick. Otherwise, rock a top!

Here’s to the weekend loves!

What to Wear for a Night Out

Date Night

Going out with friends or on a date is always a great occasion to dress up! And I love to! As always, a little black dress is the classiest choice a woman can make. Adding some gold to that dress is even better. I have a warmer skin tone, so gold tones are better on me. People with lighter tones might consider silver instead.

Some may call it a faux pa, but I love a hint of navy with black. It just adds a little pizazz and mystery. You might also consider a deep, earthy red if navy isn’t your thing. Complete this look with a musky, feminine perfume and you’ve got yourself a hot outfit!
