Thanksgiving Table Ideas

Thanksgiving Table ideas
Less than a week until Thanksgiving everyone! I love this holiday for many reasons but one of them is because it’s the last chance we have to decorate with fall-themed things. Some people have already put up their Christmas trees but I’m still clinging to my pumpkins.

Decorating for Thanksgiving

One of my favorite trends that we’re beginning to see is the use of copper! I like it because it’s cheap, elegant, and easy to decorate with. I’m still a fan of gold (I’ll always love it) but copper is something new and exciting! If you’re hosting Thanksgiving for the first time, consider investing in a few accessories or serving trays that incorporate this growing trend.

Keeping with tradition though, I love a classic wreath! My mom has one for every single holiday or season and I’m probably going to buy some when I move out. A little decorating tip: use the wreath as a centerpiece for your table. Inside of it place a candle or a bowl of cranberries, a classic Thanksgiving dish!

Placemats are another love of mine. I bought these gorgeous Cynthia Rowley ones at TJ Maxx even though I don’t have my own dining room to use them in. They were on sale and I just couldn’t resist! I saw the “thankful” ones above at Target today for $3.99 each and stood there looking at them for a good minute or two before I decided that once again, I don’t have my own dining room and these aren’t exactly my mom’s style. They’re really cute for the holiday though and might be perfect for the inevitable “kid’s table” that pops up at nearly every Thanksgiving gathering.

If none of these ideas fly with you, then go find yourself a ceramic turkey to put on your table and be done with it! I’d caution you when putting it on the table though- turkeys have a front and back, so be careful where the back faces as to not offend anyone if you know what I mean.

Perfect Christmas Gifts for Coffee Lovers

red cup christmas

Most of you probably have figured out that I love coffee (if not, look at my Instagram). I adore it and it keeps me going every day when I don’t feel like I can go anymore. Unlike a lot of people, I have made zero comment on the great Starbucks debate of 2015 and have just kept living my life. This post will be no different. Every year Starbucks debuts the most wonderful coffee mugs, ornaments, and little stocking stuffers to the public. About the same time they do this, I swear to myself that I won’t buy any of it because I don’t need anymore coffee mugs or little trinkets. A month later, I’ve bought at least two mugs.

Best Gifts for Coffee Lovers

As a coffee lover, you can trust me to give you the best advice on what to buy the java junkie in your life. The difference between me and them is that they might be more of a coffee snob than I am. You know, the type that has to have their coffee from the deep jungles of some random country where the beans are handpicked by the locals and then aged in an organic wheat sack of some sort. If you just laughed, you know the people I’m talking about.

If they’re the average coffee drinker who walks into their neighborhood Starbucks of Dunkin Donuts every morning, then you’re talking to the right girl. I’ll start you off with something fool proof- a bag of the Starbucks Christmas Blend coffee. You literally can’t go wrong with this delicious brew.

Another easy gift is an adorable Starbucks ornament. They create a bunch of little red cups in ceramic form and attach a red string to them to indulge our red cup obsession and turn it into a profit. It’s also the best ornament ever for a coffee lover.

The iconic Starbucks mermaid always makes her debut on the front of a ceramic travel mug. I absolutely love the way she looks so whimsical. Bonus: you can use this mug all year-round because it’s not seasonal specific. Frankly, I can see myself sipping from this on the beach.

Next on my list is that adorable candy cane mug with the whipped cream lid on it! Can these people get more clever? I absolutely love this mug. There aren’t many mugs out there that have that kind of lid.

If you did advent calendars when you were a kid like I did, then you’ll love the great one Starbucks has this year. Not sure what goodies are inside it but I imagine they’re pretty great. You’ll get bonus points for being so clever too!

For those of you who are reading this in a warmer climate, I haven’t forgotten you! Starbucks has really awesome travel tumblers that are made to keep things cold. Better yet, they sparkle!

Hopefully, one of you knows someone that has a little coffee bar at their house and regularly stocks it with yummy things to make their coffee special! You can buy latte syrup in a bottle that comes with a pump so it’s literally like having your own Starbucks in your house. Add in that hot cocoa gift set and you’re good to go!

If you’re a coffee lover, leave a comment with your favorite coffee related gift!

New Year’s Eve Style for Every Dress Code

Hello loves! I write to you while rocking out to Fergie’s new song ‘L.A. Love’ and I’m trying not smudge my pretty nails that are drying! A little pampering was long overdue for this tired girl. 2014 was one of those years that had high ‘highs’ and low ‘lows’. It was a roller coaster and frankly, I’m glad it’s almost over. Before it’s over we have to celebrate though! Bring in 2015 with some sparkle!

new_years_eve_outfit

As you can probably guess, I love anything that glitters and New Year’s Eve is the perfect opportunity to really shine! No matter how dressy the event is you can still add a little pizazz. I’ve chosen five outfits for different dress codes. Some of these choices are more affordable than others. You can find similar looks at places like TJ Maxx and the price won’t be nearly as high.

The first dress is by Rare London. I would wear a dress like this to an upscale lounge in the city (think Lauren Conrad and her besties at La Deux in LA). Dresses like these are meant for places like that. It’s a mature look without losing the fun factor.

Dress number two is by Elie Saab. A black tie affair is the only time I would consider wearing this beautiful gown. If you find yourself lucky enough to be invited to a ridiculously classy event for New Year’s Eve, then consider finding something like this. The price tag on this dress is over $7000 (Nordstrom Rack is a great place to find dresses).

Dress number three is from Lily Boutique and is pretty affordable. I absolutely love a high-low hem and the sash around the waist really pulls it all together. If you’re attending a party that requires a cocktail dress, then invest in this lovely little thing. Better yet, if the party takes place outdoors the hem of the dress is going to look amazing in the breeze! It’s the little things girls.

The fourth option is dressed-down sparkle for those of us who plan on going somewhere a little more low key with friends. Kind Label on Etsy created this adorable V-neck t shirt. The leggings are by Marlene Berger. Put together, both pieces create a relaxed New Year’s look while still maintaining a little bit of sophistication.

Finally, the fifth look was inspired by the need for a work-party appropriate outfit. Most companies have Christmas parties but some have one for New Year’s. Maintaining a professional appearance is still important at these events. The gold pencil skirt is by Josie Natori and the peplum top is by Alice + Olivia. What could be more work appropriate than a pencil skirt and peplum top?

Enjoy your last few days of 2014!

Where Have I been? Travel Edition!

ocean_city Hello friends! I didn’t post yesterday because it was a travel day for me. I was on a short road trip back from the lovely beaches of Maryland’s Eastern Shore. My family goes camping in Ocean City, Maryland every summer. Camping is our favorite pastime as my mom’s family enjoyed it too. As you can see in the photo to the left, we had a lovely time taking pictures on the jetty next to the harbor. My sister is on the left and her best friend that came along for the trip is on the right.

We spent one day at Assateague Island enjoying the beach and wild assateague_island horses. Legend has it that these horses are descendants of horses that were shipwrecked off the coast of Maryland/Virginia hundreds of years ago. It is thought that the ship was probably Spanish and was carrying livestock to America. Unfortunately the weather didn’t cooperate for us and it was cloudy with a high of 74. Needless to say I was a bit chilly and sat on the beach in my bikini bottoms and hoodie. The water was like ice!

fresh_fruit Later on that day my mom and I took a little trip to one of her favorite stores called The Barn (colonial decorating and all things country) and then picked up some fresh corn grown locally in Delaware at a little produce store. There’s nothing better than fresh veggies and fruits.

After dinner we went to the campground’s karaoke night where my sister line_dancing and a few other girls sang a Carrie Underwood song and then danced the Cotton Eyed Joe (oh memories of middle school flooding back anyone?) I must say that line dancing takes the wind out of you. I was so tired by the end of the camp_fire night. When we got back to our campsite my dad had lit a fire in the fire ring. We sat around playing charades and telling funny stories. My sister was obsessed with puns all weekend so everything she said had a double meaning. At least it kept her laughing!

On Sunday it was cloudy again and not worth the beach trip. We went to a zoo flamingoin Salisbury, MD for some fuzzy animal sight seeing. I fell in love with the flamingos. A few of them were having a fit about something and kept poking at each other. It was adorable. We also saw this beautiful owl who wasn’t too happy to see us. He swiveled his head around when my sister started talking to it. He blinked a few times and opened his beak a little wanting to say something back.

When we got back to our campsite my sister and her friend engaged in shenaniganstheir typical shenanigans and it ended up with my sister on the ground her camp chair. Silly girls.

Finally, we went to the boardwalk and people watched. It never fails to be entertaining. ocean_city_boardwalk People are crazy, that’s all I can say! The girls had a good time spotting cute boys. Ok, I admit to having fun finding them first and then telling them where to look and when to start flipping their hair to get the boys’ attention. I’m just as bad as they are but it was a good time!

I hope you enjoyed the photos and my weekend recap! P.S. Leave a comment on whether or not you would like it if I started focusing a little more on what’s in my closet” type things! Thanks!
