Happy hump day gals! Oh man, my weekend was just chaotic but so full of fun. I’m still recovering from the endless Fourth of July festivities. My holiday was spent in Topeka, Kansas with my best friend (check Instagram this afternoon for a bestie picture!) We spent every day in the pool with other party goers and ended every night wishing we hadn’t eaten so much. Seriously, I’ve never had pulled pork that had been smoking for 12 hours but oh my goodness it was divine! Food and the Fourth just go hand in hand.
Being that I love my outfits to coordinate with the merriment of every holiday season, I had to wear my Lilly Pulitzer fireworks print skirt that debuted last summer. How cute does it look with the popsicle tank?! It was such an easy outfit to wear because reds and blues go together so well- just like freedom and fireworks!
My best friend, Jessica, and I walked over to the gardens at Lake Shawnee to enjoy the flowers, bunny rabbits, and little goslings waddling around. Being that we’re girls always looking for a great photo op, we stood around taking pictures for my blog and her Instagram. What can I say? Bloggers never take a break!
Unfortunately, the night ended in a bit of tragedy. While the entire street was out shooting off fireworks, a truck accidentally hit a woman crossing the road and killed her. We heard the sirens and then walked down the street to see what was going on. Paramedics were doing CPR and at the point I turned away. She was declared dead at the hospital. It’s so awful how a seemingly cheery event can turn deadly so fast. It seemed the fireworks went off in the sky as a way to mark her sad passing.
For the rest of the evening we tried to enjoy ourselves and celebrate our county’s 240th birthday. Being the proud American I am, I can’t help but get a little teary eyed watching fireworks light up the sky while sitting in a lawn chair surrounded by people who share my love of country. It’s lovely isn’t it?

How fun, right? We rarely get to see each other so I’m really thankful that this summer I’ll get to spend some time with her. Without a doubt this is my favorite holiday to celebrate. It’s the one time of the year where classic American, preppy style is not only worn but celebrated! For one day out of the year my wardrobe is super stylish!
My outfit is still in the making but I will most certainly be wearing my Lilly Pulitzer fireworks skirt. It’s seriously the most festive and fun piece of clothing I own! I don’t think they make it anymore sadly or else I’d buy something similar in that pattern and end up wearing it all summer. Who says 4th of July has to end? Anyway enjoy your Tuesday and drink some coffee for me!
I hope your Fourth of July was as wonderful as mine! I spent Sunday recovering by the pool and thinking about what I would say in this blog post. Luckily for you, I’ve figured it out and won’t ramble on for too long.
My Fourth of July consisted of Strawberry Shortcake made by yours truly, an orchestra playing old movie themes, fireworks, and quality time with my mom. It was absolutely lovely. We just sat outside enjoying nature and the beautiful country we were blessed to be born in. I thought about all the places on Earth I could be a citizen of and I still came to the same conclusion: I’m very proud to be a citizen of this one. That’s why I sport the red, white, and blue. And speaking of which, here’s a look at my festive style for the weekend’s occasion!
My skirt is from Cynthia Rowley, the sunhat is from Target, and the necklace and watch are from Kate Spade!
I love to wear red nail polish for the Fourth! Normally, I reserve this shade for the Autumn months, but it matched Old Glory so well I just couldn’t help myself!
For those of you who may wonder, this is my natural hair color and my hair isn’t highlighted. During the summer, my hair gets little gold streaks in it courtesy of the sun. I save a fortune on my hair appointments!
I love the front of this Cynthia Rowley skirt. It has the cutest little slit that goes up the side. It looks really elegant when the wind catches it.
It was a really crowded event but well worth it. The orchestra is always incredibly good and there’s tons to do even if you aren’t into the music. My mom and I ate dessert together while my sister and her friend caught up with a few of their school friends.
A Fourth of July celebration isn’t complete until the fireworks have exploded and this year was no exception. After centuries of use, they’re still just as beautiful as they were the first time. This is truly one of my favorite holidays for many reasons but no matter how old I get, lighting up the sky is always the best part.
Fourth of July is this weekend and I couldn’t be more excited! I love this holiday for many reasons and one of them is sporting red, white, and blue in style! I love the way Americans celebrate their freedom. It’s a beautiful expression of who we are and that there are some traditions that won’t change.
I still haven’t decided what I’m wearing or even what my official plans are. I have many ideas floating around in my head but they all have one thing in common: bug spray! I get eaten alive every year. I also might attempt to make strawberry shortcake with some blueberries for added color, but don’t count on it.
I’ll take a selfie to share with you on my Instagram when I figure out what my Fourth of July style will include. For now, enjoy my inspiration!

Hello everyone! In true Fourth of July fashion I’m sporting the red, white, and blue! This is one of my favorite holidays as my family came here from Ireland, Scotland, and several other European countries in search of freedom and opportunity. That was 100 years ago. Now, I enjoy the benefits of being a pure bred American girl!
Anyway, my outfit consists of a lacey red top from Banana Republic (on sale!) White 3 inch inseam shorts from JCrew (also on sale!) My sandals are from Rampage and I found them at Burlington Coat Factory for $10.
My necklace is from Forever 21 and the anchor earrings are from Aldo. The nail polish is Essie in “Secret Lining” and my sunnies are from Ann Taylor.
Comment below with your outfit of the day! Happy 4th of July! God Bless my beautiful America!
