Despite recent flooding and otherwise dreary weather, this week I’m making my way down to the great state of Texas! I’ve got boots, Cowboys, and Tex-Mex on my mind and I can’t wait for my first visit to this desert oasis. Actually, from what I’ve been told, it’s not all a desert and not everyone wears boots or knows how to saddle a horse. I’m just fulfilling my childhood fantasies of a remote outpost with dangerous outlaws and heroic sheriffs. Can you blame me?
My plans are to fly into Austin and then make my way to San Antonio where I’ll spend the majority of my time. I’ll be doing some sight seeing, shopping, and trying some of the local cuisine. I was hoping there would be a dude ranch near by the city so I could ride horses and pretend I’m a cowgirl. Apparently, ranches aren’t just everywhere in this part of Texas. Instead of chaps and spurs, I’ll be wearing sundresses and sandals. I ripped through my closet trying to find tribal and Aztec prints to wear and no such luck. I think I’ll have to stick to the east coast prep style. Hopefully Texans like Lilly Pulitzer and Sperrys as much as we do East of the Mississippi.
I’ll update you on my trip via Instagram! Be sure to follow me (@wittynpretty21)
Tuesday snuck up on me and so did Monday. My weekends are going so fast for some reason. I woke up yesterday and was shocked that it was over. I went out to run some errands and get my coffee when I was greeted with another surprise: white flurries falling from the sky. The weatherman had called for snow but they always make a big deal out of nothing. Driving home was all sorts of interesting as Marylanders creeped along on the highways so they wouldn’t skid. We aren’t used to this white stuff.
When I got home, I camped out in front of the fire and cuddled the kitty. In weather like this, having the proper warm, cozy equipment is crucial! I’ve rounded up a few of my favorite winter weather things for making this snow storm that much lovelier!
Hello loves, hope your Tuesday is a beautiful one. This past weekend was a bit packed for me between homework I forgot to do, Saturday evening church services, and then dinner with a sweet someone. All in all, it was good even though I’m exhausted.
I decided I want to give you a little peak inside my weekend so I took pictures of an event I went to with my best friend and fellow blogger, Lindsey. It was called “A Taste of Saint Mary’s” in our town square. Vendors from all over our county came and were giving out small samples of their food. To taste almost everything it was about $20 total but well worth it. Great seafood, steak, desserts, and other yummy things. Lindsey and I had a really nice time walking around the square and then down at the wharf on the riverside. My town totally reminds me of Stars Hallow in Gilmore Girls during events like these. I’m for sure Lorelai and my friend Lindsey is Rory without a doubt. Now where can we find a Luke… 😉
I’ve put captions on all of the photos to guide you through my experience so hopefully you enjoy it. I certainly did. Leave me a comment about your weekend! I love hearing about everyone’s life!
Hello friends! I didn’t post yesterday because it was a travel day for me. I was on a short road trip back from the lovely beaches of Maryland’s Eastern Shore. My family goes camping in Ocean City, Maryland every summer. Camping is our favorite pastime as my mom’s family enjoyed it too. As you can see in the photo to the left, we had a lovely time taking pictures on the jetty next to the harbor. My sister is on the left and her best friend that came along for the trip is on the right.
We spent one day at Assateague Island enjoying the beach and wild horses. Legend has it that these horses are descendants of horses that were shipwrecked off the coast of Maryland/Virginia hundreds of years ago. It is thought that the ship was probably Spanish and was carrying livestock to America. Unfortunately the weather didn’t cooperate for us and it was cloudy with a high of 74. Needless to say I was a bit chilly and sat on the beach in my bikini bottoms and hoodie. The water was like ice!
Later on that day my mom and I took a little trip to one of her favorite stores called The Barn (colonial decorating and all things country) and then picked up some fresh corn grown locally in Delaware at a little produce store. There’s nothing better than fresh veggies and fruits.
After dinner we went to the campground’s karaoke night where my sister and a few other girls sang a Carrie Underwood song and then danced the Cotton Eyed Joe (oh memories of middle school flooding back anyone?) I must say that line dancing takes the wind out of you. I was so tired by the end of the night. When we got back to our campsite my dad had lit a fire in the fire ring. We sat around playing charades and telling funny stories. My sister was obsessed with puns all weekend so everything she said had a double meaning. At least it kept her laughing!
On Sunday it was cloudy again and not worth the beach trip. We went to a zoo in Salisbury, MD for some fuzzy animal sight seeing. I fell in love with the flamingos. A few of them were having a fit about something and kept poking at each other. It was adorable. We also saw this beautiful owl who wasn’t too happy to see us. He swiveled his head around when my sister started talking to it. He blinked a few times and opened his beak a little wanting to say something back.
When we got back to our campsite my sister and her friend engaged in their typical shenanigans and it ended up with my sister on the ground her camp chair. Silly girls.
Finally, we went to the boardwalk and people watched. It never fails to be entertaining. People are crazy, that’s all I can say! The girls had a good time spotting cute boys. Ok, I admit to having fun finding them first and then telling them where to look and when to start flipping their hair to get the boys’ attention. I’m just as bad as they are but it was a good time!
I hope you enjoyed the photos and my weekend recap! P.S. Leave a comment on whether or not you would like it if I started focusing a little more on “what’s in my closet” type things! Thanks!
This weekend I will be laying on the beach spending time in the sun and sand! We take a beach trip at least once a summer to get our fix of salt water and sea breezes. Better yet, we get our summer tans that last until late October.
My first vacation was spent at the beach in a cute little swimsuit with a big floppy hat on my head. I hated the water actually and cried when the waves crashed on the beach. But as any born and raised east coaster knows, a beach bag must be properly packed. I’m going to give you a peak inside my beach bag to see what I’m bringing!
Not pictured is my sunscreen (spf 30), iPhone, ear buds, and little pineapple snack.
I can’t wait to show you all vacation photos when I get back! Please tell me if I’ve forgotten anything for my beach bag! There’s nothing worse than forgetting something big!
