I came from a small town in Maryland where there was only one bakery (besides those that you might find in a grocery store) to choose from. Here in Dallas, I find myself popping in and out of at least two or three on the same street! Talk about a sugar lover’s paradise! Finding a good bakery can be like trying to find a needle in a haystack. They are hard to come by! Near my apartment is the Original Cupcakery, which I found to be a tad bland and not the cute, bright atmosphere that I associate with a bakery. Going further into northern Dallas, I happened upon a lovely little shop called Susie Cakes!
Susie Cakes stole my heart from the beginning! The bright blue interior and pleasant staff members drew me in, but the cupcakes keep me coming back! My favorites are the mint chocolate chip cupcake and the strawberry cupcake. The fillings they use are decadent and compliment the cakes so nicely. I love things that are just bursting with flavor and these cupcakes certainly didn’t disappoint. The best part is, if you download their app, you get two free cupcakes! You can also use the app to earn rewards points towards one of their beautiful cakes!
In my humble opinion, bakeries (or cupcakeries) should have good coffee. I ordered a vanilla iced coffee and much like everything else, it was quite tasty! I’m not a coffee snob by any means, but I know what tastes good and what tastes terrible. Susie Cakes is just all around yummy! How can you not love their cute logo too? If you’re in the Dallas area, swing by and give one of their treats a try!
Yesterday I was sitting at Starbucks (shocking) drinking a PSL and scrolling through my Pinterest. Like any good pinner would do, I repinned all of the fall-themed things to my “Everything Autumn” board. I’ve had a Pinterest account for the last 4 years and have accumulated over 13,000 pins, a few hundred of those are pretty much all things pumpkin. After going through a few of those pins, I came across several recipes that I thought I might share with you! As promised, they’re centered around fall! They’re all linked below to the original pin. Click on the pin when you get there and it’ll take you to the website where you can get the recipe. I can attest to how good that Crockpot Apple Crisp is!

Please feel free to share any recipes you really enjoy this time of the year!
Monday is here again and we’re all back to the grind. Get up at the crack of dawn, slowly get dressed, wish we hadn’t stayed up late the night before, grab a cereal bar for breakfast, sit in traffic, grab coffee, and then sit down at your desk and stare at a computer for the next 8 hours. It can be so mundane at times. I thought today I’d share with you my not-so-mundane weekend to shake things up a bit.
I spent time shopping and enjoying the nice weather. Typically, I go around to each of my favorite stores where I can find good deals and see what’s on sale. I scored a few cute things from Kohl’s, believe it or not. The dress is Lauren Conrad and I got it on clearance for $19.20, normally $64. The top is Elle brand and it was only $12. They were really cute finds for pretty decent prices.
Saturday night I went out with my family for pizza and then ice cream on the boardwalk. We’ve been going to the same ice cream place since I was a toddler. Every year it opens up and the line is ridiculously long but it’s always worth it. We stroll by the water and enjoy the scenery and overall atmosphere of the area. It feels like you’re on vacation, even if it’s just for an hour.
Sunday I went and laid by the pool with my friend Dawn. I love having a pool to go to and get some sun. Dawn is a yoga enthusiast and she asked me to take a picture of her doing a pose by the pool. As I was taking it, these little girls in the water were telling Dawn how amazing she was. They asked her to teach them, which she was slightly reluctant to do because they would be doing it on wet concrete. The girls eventually jumped back in the pool and splashed around.
Summer days are truly the best, summer weekends are even better!
On Wednesdays we eat cake! This is my own little spin on Marie Antoinette and Mean Girls. “On Wednesdays we wear pink” and “Let them eat cake” are iconic statements from two glamor girls lost in their own worlds. Frankly, if they weren’t so shallow, I might actually adore them. Macarons, cupcakes, pastries, and expensive champagne are all delicious reminders of the aristocratic society Marie embodied. Too bad it started the French Revolution.
Well friends, a miraculous thing happened the other day- I baked cookies from scratch AND they didn’t burn. Gingerbread cookies always seemed like a difficult thing to make but aside from a few technical terms I had to Google, they were fairly simple.
I started out simply wanting to try my hand at making something tasty and sugary for Christmas. When I couldn’t find the pre-made Pillsbury gingerbread dough, I had to improvise by making the dough myself. Betty Crocker poked her way into my personality for a few hours and I was a baking wizard in my mom’s kitchen. Who knew such things were possible?
As it turns out, I’m not all that bad when it comes to baking. The gingerbread cookies came out warm and soft without a single burnt edge. Even my mom was proud of my new-found abilities! She actually enjoyed this baking endeavor of mine! If I had all the time in the world and a limitless grocery budget, I might actually do a little more in the kitchen.
Here’s the amazing recipe I used that got good reviews from tons of people! It really was tasty!
