Here’s a random fact about me that I bet you didn’t know: I’m one of those annoying people that has to write everything down, keep an agenda, and hates it when people say “let’s just wing it”. Seriously, it’s my biggest pet peeve and the cause of a lot of my stress. As you can imagine, I try to stay very organized so that I can have peace of mine. Throughout college (and now as a graduate), I regarded organization as my biggest asset. It truly is my life line and I’m going to share with you a few things I use to turn chaos into harmony using things that aren’t created by Apple!
The first thing I use for organization is a filing folder, or several of them if needed. I love them for many reasons but mainly because they look neat and tidy sitting on my desk in a little stack. I put receipts, records, official government documents (think anything from the IRS), and other important paper items in them. Pro tip: If you hate it when things fall out of the sides, use paper clips to hold the sides closed.
As a mature, responsible adult (just kidding), I like to keep track of what I spend and where in a little book so that I can refer back to it if I forgot what I bought. It’s also interesting to see your spending habits and what you spend money on. Most of my money I spend on cute clothes. I need to stop doing that.
Finally, I keep an agenda. I update it daily with things that come up that need my attention. Quite often there’s something I’ll forget about that will be written in my agenda and I’m always glad that I wrote it down. I’ve definitely almost missed quite a few dentist and doctor appointments! I really like the Lilly Pulitzer agendas but I’ve heard the Kate Spade ones are great too. Even my mom has a Lilly though!
If anyone has used a Kate Spade planner, let me know! I’d love to hear your thoughts. Happy Thursday!
Happy Tuesday everyone! This week is bound to be beautiful for many reasons but mainly because I graduate on Saturday. I can’t wait to walk across that stage and get my diploma. I guarantee I’ll cry tears of joy, after all, I cried enough tears of frustration writing all those papers. My parents and sister are the only ones that can come to my ceremony, I really wish my sweet grandmother could have been here for it but I know she’ll be there in spirit.
I caved to a major sale over the weekend at Brinabox.com. I’ve been eyeing their adorable midi skirts since last fall and they just went on sale for $23.99! I just couldn’t resist anymore, they’re too cute! I chose the blush version of this chic little skirt. It’s due to arrive tomorrow and I’m so excited to try it on and style it. It’s one of those skirts where you can really dress it up or down. I’m going to try and wear a cute tee shirt with it and then also try a printed blouse for a fancier look.
In other news, how adorable is the new little princess’ name? Charlotte is just the cutest name for a little girl! I’m not going to lie, the Duchess pretty much stole both of my favorite kid names (George and Charlotte) but she’s Kate Middleton so I’ll forgive her. I’d still consider using them someday because I’ve loved them since forever!
Have a lovely day and enjoy the sunshine!
It’s Friday! Congrats, you made it through the week! As I get older, I realize how important a few days off are. Life is just draining at times. I’ve been commuting up to Fairfax, VA 3 times a week for my new job and between my chronic case of road rage and the money I spend on gas I’m just so ready for weekends.
Speaking of my new job, I’m absolutely loving it! I have great bosses and coworkers. Last night, a few of us went to an Irish pub to hang out and get to know each other. A few of us will be working remotely soon so having good relationships with everyone is key to getting things done. I definitely enjoyed getting to know people in an informal setting. I mentioned it in another post, but I’m the only girl that was selected to be on this contract. It’s turned out better than I thought it would. All of the guys are really great and are fun to be around.
I’m also really thrilled to say that I got my first pay check! It’s such an amazing feeling being able to earn your own money and rely on yourself and not someone else to take care of you. What’s even more exciting is that I’m going to start saving money for my future! My contract is up in November and I really would like to move to either Northern Virginia or somewhere in Florida. Since I would be getting my own apartment, I’d need to buy pretty furniture so I’m really excited about saving for that!
The biggest excitement of all right now, is my graduation next weekend! I have my Lilly Pulitzer dress all ready to go and fabulous shoes to go with it! The family and I will be headed down to Virginia Beach for a few days of celebration and beach time. Here’s hoping we have good weather! As a graduation present, my parents are buying me a really nice camera so I can have great pictures of the biggest day of my life and I’ll be able to share them with you! I guarantee I’ll be crying when I walk across the stage to accept my diploma. All these memories will just come rushing back of the greatest time in my life. I’m starting to tear up already. Lord help me.
Enjoy your weekend beautiful people! I’m off to finish some work and then go to the gym!
P.S. My top is from Banana Republic, sunglasses are from Aldo, Blazer is Ann Taylor, and red skirt is from Kenar.
Happy Monday lovelies. I’ve been gone all weekend enjoying some girl time with my friends and making memories. We went up to Annapolis Saturday morning for the Army-Navy Lacrosse game. It was the perfect day for spending time outside in the sun. Weekends like this remind me of why it’s important for my mental health to go outside and be active. Winter is officially over and I’m bringing in the spring weather with some fun events!
Like I said, I went up to Annapolis for a lacrosse game with my friends Dawn and Kaisea. We got to the stadium and found a parking spot amongst the numerous tailgaters. After finding our seats we found ourselves sitting near midshipmen (and women), which was a good thing because we were cheering on our Navy boys. All of us girls were Navy brats at one point. After the game (Navy won 10-6), we went into downtown Annapolis to walk around and take pretty pictures. Unfortunately there were too many cars and not enough parking spaces. I drove around for an hour finding parking.
For dinner, we went with Dawn’s aunt and uncle to Japanese Hibachi. Is there anything better than watching a chef cook? It’s mesmerizing. Her uncle was generous enough to treat three broke college girls to dinner and then give us the details on where all the cool kids go to hangout on a Saturday night. He sent us to a place in Baltimore called Pazo. We got all dolled up and went to this posh place and sat at the bar where the girls ordered white wine and I got a latte; best latte I’ve ever had for the record. As we were sitting there, Dawn started chatting to an older man sitting next to her about the Baltimore Orioles win that night. Listening to their conversation I began to recognize his voice. I leaned over and said that his voice sounded familiar. As I said that it dawned on me, he, Gary Thorne, was the radio and television announcer for the Orioles. He smiled at me and said I nailed it. I laughed and told him that I had grown up listening to his voice on the radio to which he said, “God bless you child.” He was also kind enough to pay our tab before he left. I don’t think we had ever been so excited.
After our celebrity run in, the girls and I headed to the young adult hang out of Baltimore called Federal Hill. Essentially, it’s a college bar-crawl where the people watching is quite entertaining. We ended up going to an oyster bar turned dance floor to enjoy our evening. The people you meet in these places never cease to surprise me. My friends ran into a friend of theirs who had moved to Texas a few years back and was just in the city for the night. I ran into the entire Virginia Commonwealth University baseball team. The bouncers ran into a kid who just couldn’t quite figure out that you needed an ID to get in. They picked him up and tossed him out quite a few times.
We got back pretty late and went right to bed. Exhaustion is stilling running through my body. I figure I’m only young once though so I can handle this every once in a while. It was a fun weekend. Girl’s nights out are necessary. Tell me about your weekend in a comment below!
