Happy Monday lovelies! I hope your weekend was restful or at least enjoyable. I went to a Baltimore Orioles vs. Red Sox game Saturday and it was crazy! The game went for 10 innings before the Orioles broke the tie and won the game. Red Sox fans were not too happy. Before the game let out, there was an announcement made in the stadium that the Mayor of the city and the police department had closed the stadium gates because protesters were rioting nearby and it wasn’t safe for anyone to leave. A few cars had been damaged and businesses were vandalized but no one was hurt, which is the important part.
Every Monday I wake up with two thoughts: what am I going to wear and do I have to get up yet? No more of this! It isn’t the start to a productive day. I’m probably too regimented in how I like things done, however I’m learning that being prepared for the day makes the morning go much smoother. Here are 5 things that can improve your Monday morning!
Choose your outfit the night before.Scrambling around, trying to find a necklace to go with your top isn’t the way to do things. When you’re getting ready for bed Sunday night, pick everything out so you aren’t rushed the next day.
Organize your planner. If you don’t have one, you need to get one. Having your day and week planned out in advance saves you the headache of wondering what’s going on and if you forgot anything.
Drink a cup of coffee or tea. Drink up for a happy morning! Combine that with some eggs and toast and you’re fueled up for the day. Bonus: you stay slim by eating a good breakfast.
Put on lipstick. I’m telling you ladies, this just puts the pep in my step! Feeling beautiful on a Monday makes the rest of the week so much better. I have a lot of confidence when I do this.
Buy fresh flowers.I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again- flowers bring life to any space. Get some for your bedroom and office to add a little something extra to the area. Mornings are so much easier if you’re surrounded by beauty.
Happy Friday loves! I’m so glad the weekend is finally here so we can all stay inside and bundle up with our pjs on. Or you can go out and enjoy good weather if you’re lucky enough to be in a climate with it! It’s a bit chilly where I am and there’s nothing I’d love more than some California sunshine. An afternoon on the Santa Monica pier sounds divine at the moment!
For those of you who plan on venturing outside in warm weather I suggest including “winter tones” in your style choices. Bold red and black speaks volumes on any lady while an animal print adds interest and incorporates the fur we all love to see and wear. By no means do I expect any of us to be able to afford Bvlgari or Prada, but there are many retailers, such as Target or even H&M that have similar items at half the price. The crazy thing about designer labels is that you’re paying for the name and slightly better quality than what you might find in Forever 21. I’ll pay for quality but I don’t like to pay for a name. Shop around and find great options similar to the ones you see above and recreate this look for less.
Speaking of clothing, have any of you seen “the dress” everyone’s Facebook and Twitter feeds are blowing up with? The debate is whether it’s blue and black or white and gold.I thought this would be simple to solve by looking at it but apparently there’s an optical phenomenon going on and not everyone sees the same thing. Regardless, I want to draw attention to how silly things like this somehow make much bigger news than say, all the religious minority women that are being kidnapped and sold at markets by ISIL (don’t believe it, then read for yourself). How on Earth are we as a culture and society more interested in a dress than we are the well-being of women in another country? True, we can’t personally do much about it, but we can give our time in drawing attention to this horrifying act. It’s something to think about.
In preparation for Valentine’s Day, I’m rockin’ 50 shades of red (ok more like 3 or 4). I love this holiday because everything is either pink or red and has tons of sparkles on it. My only complaint is that there isn’t a Starbucks drink specifically for this month. Something like a ‘Cherry Jubilee’ has a nice ring to it, don’t you think? At least Nabisco came out with red velvet Oreos for the occasion, which, by the way are amazing!
For this super special day, I’ll be wearing Nars ‘Cruella” for the perfect Taylor Swift-stylepout.It’s very hard for me to wear certain shades of red. My skin tone, lightly bronzed cheeks, and recently-whitened teeth allow me to wear this shade of red. However, this color won’t look good on every girl. I recommend heading to the nearest Sephora and trying on every shade of redin the Nars velvet matte lip collection. I hated shelling out the money for this lip pencil but it really is amazing and the color lasts at least 8 hours. Pro tip: put on a bit of Chapstick before applying lipstick, it really helps keep your lips from chapping while wearing the product all day.
How to Wear Red Lipstick
Here are all the red lip pencils Nars has in their velvet matte collection. The color best suited for you will really depend on the undertones in your skin and your hair color. For me, I have a yellowy undertones in my skin and brunette hair (which is my natural hair color; no highlights here!) so deep, rich shades of red are better for me. If you have red undertones in your skin, then lighter shades might be better on you.
Whatever color you pick, make sure you don’t get any on your teeth! I’ve had this happen so many times and it really is embarrassing. Walking into a restaurant thinking you look super cute and you have red lipstick on your teeth (or worse, just below or above your actual lips) is not a confidence-booster! I’m pretty sure this never happens to Miss Taylor Swift so don’t let it happen to you either!
Hello loves! Yesterday, I mentioned that I’m apartment hunting in my future place of residence- Charleston, SC- so today I thought I might show you a few things that are inspiring me in terms of how I’m going to decorate!
The colors I’m going with are gray, light pink, white, black, and gold. Of course, I’m adding in touches of glitter everywhere! Pretty fonts like the one you see below will also adorn my walls as I think they add so much personality to a room. I want a touch of whimsy in the main living area!
In my bedroom, I’m really hoping to keep the color palette to black and white with hints of pink and some silver. Based on all the little accessories and decorative items I’ve collected over the past few years, I think I can pull this look off. I’m going to be looking for a large floor-length mirror to put in a corner so I can take better pictures of my #ootd!
I absolutely adore the colors in this floral arrangement. Pink, cream, and lilac are so feminine. I’m a huge believer in keeping plants in the house during the winter months because we need something green and living to look at during the day. It’s an instant mood-lifter!
Last but not least on my inspiration list, the kitchen! Will my first place have a kitchen like this? No, probably not. However, incorporating these elements (texture, color, and pattern) will make my bland kitchen totally glam. I’ll be raiding TJ Maxx for their discounted designer kitchen wear! I’ll keep you posted!
Have you ever found something you absolutely fell in love with and then looked at the price tag? That happened to me yesterday. I went to Pier 1 Imports just to see what they had on clearance and sitting right in front of me when I walked in was this gorgeous sofa. It was a light cream with a tufted back and overly stuffed pillows. It was also $899. For some, that’s a decent price, but for a recent college grad swimming in debt, it’s too much.
I continued looking around the store and daydreaming of filling my future apartment with all the pretty things I wanted. A look at my bank account reminded me yet again that I should promptly exit the store. Nonetheless, I figured I’d share with you a few of my favorite living room pieces that I saw. Hopefully, you’ll daydream with me!
I’m confident I can achieve this look without spending the small fortune it would cost to buy it all at Pier 1. I visited Marshall’s a short while later and fell in love with similar things at a fraction of the price. When I officially move, I’ll probably be buying furniture a little bit at a time so I can pay in cash and not go into more debt. I’ll update y’all when that does happen so you can follow along in my interior design journey!
