S’Winter Style

how to wear chambray

It’s a beautiful December morning here in southern Maryland! The temperatures have been in the 60s for the last few days so I’m embracing it and wearing a few of my warm weather favorites like this great chambray shirt. There’s been a nasty virus going around and I was fortunate enough to catch it so I especially appreciate a warm summer/winter day!

Over the weekend, my boyfriend and I went to our local boardwalk to enjoy the sun and seagulls. A beautiful Christmas tree was decorated under a gazebo by the water and we stopped to take a few pictures. I just rediscovered my love of wearing white jeans after Labor Day and I had to share with you!

white jeansSome of my favorite looks are all about versatility and I love that white jeans like these (from Ann Taylor) can be worn with so much all year round. That’s the key to a great wardrobe on a budget- the ability to mix and match. During these awkward days when the weather just doesn’t know what season it is, I love being able to pull out a few things that work in all seasons. Even the accessories I wear tend to go with almost everything in my closet.

My favorite piece of jewelry I own is this beautiful Tiffany necklace that my sweet boyfriend bought for me as a Christmas gift! The classic Tiffany charm hangs next to a pretty pink heart on the chain. It came in the perfect little blue box and I was so surprised and excited to receive it! It’s what I like to call an investment piece. It’s going to cost you a pretty penny, but it goes beautifully with everything!

Wearing Chambray

how to wear chambray

I love the early part of fall because you can wear an assortment of clothes! I never seem to want to put my summer clothes in boxes nor do I want to jump right into wearing jeans and heavy sweaters. A shirt that fits the inevitable summer-fall transition time (i.e. it’s 85 degrees one day and 70 the next) is the chambray shirt!

First, let me start by saying that this shirt is super comfy! Second, it’s very versatile. I like to wear it open with a tank top underneath most of the time, but I’ve also worn it buttoned-up and tucked into a really cute tartan skirt. I’m thinking of adding it to my list of staple items in a wardrobe.

The family and I went to Massachusetts a few weeks ago for a little vacation (see photos here and here). I found myself wearing my chambray shirt a few times because the during the day it got warm, whence the rolled up sleeves, and at night it got chilly. Bonus: it can be worn with anything, therefore lightening my luggage load! My dad was thankful, let me tell you!

I found my shirt at American Eagle several years ago but here’s a similar one. Happy shopping!

#PSL Inspiration

Fall and PSL

Even though it’s about 90 degrees outside I’m dreaming of fall! I was looking through my Instagram feed and everyone seems to be gearing up for #PSL season. Frankly, I’ve been ready for it since last month but I think I can wait just a little longer.

Since I live in the Mid-Atlantic region I’m accustomed to wearing summery things well into the middle of October. As a kid, I would go back to school shopping and wear everything my mom got me within a week even if it was 80 degrees out and the pants were corduroy. I didn’t care, I was just so excited to wear new clothes. The same holds true now.

This season, I’m loving white jeans and chambray! The jeans are a perfect transition piece to wear because they give off that warm weather vibe while still being warmer than shorts. I found a great pair at Ann Taylor last summer for $15. Start searching the stores for their summer clearance items and see if you can score any.

I’m also loving mules and felt floppy hats for the season. I’ve seen quite a few of both at places like J Crew but you can find it cheaper at Target. One thing I’m learning very quickly is not to skimp on shoes. I bought mules at Target a few weeks ago on clearance and they hurt like crazy! No padding in the heel at all so you can really only wear them for a short amount of time. I realize we all can’t afford Jimmy Choo so my alternative is Aldo. They have well-made shoes and decent prices especially if you’re willing to wait an extra month or two for their seasonal merchandise to go down in price.

Enjoy shopping for autumn and let me know if find anything good!

Outfit Idea for Warm Autumn Days

Hello Tuesday, I hope you’ll give me a good hair day! Really, that’s honestly the easiest way to make my day happier than usual. Starbucks waiting for me in the kitchen doesn’t hurt either. Add my Lilly Pulitzer agenda, a warm blueberry muffin, and fuzzy socks and I’ll be a peach all day long.

I’ve been thinking about cute outfits that combine both summer and fall wardrobe choices since for many of us its still about 70 degrees everyday. I came up with this cute little outfit while rummaging through my closet. The top I found a few years ago at American Eagle and the skirt I found the other day at Marshall’s on clearance for $2! Its also an American Eagle skirt. The necklace is Kim Rogers at Belk and the shoes are from Rampage. This was the easiest outfit to put together and it works in the fall and summer.

Tell me about your summer/fall transition outfits in the comments below!
