I posted yesterday about my Lilly for Target finds and the adventure I had finding them. Today, I wanted to talk about the problems myself and others encountered with the coveted line. As much as I loved this collaboration and as great as the prints were, there were some things that could have been improved upon. It’s been dubbed the Preppy Girl’s Hunger Games for a reason!
The first thing that should have been better prepared for is the product demand. We were told before the store opened that there was only one dress per size and style available. For example, I’m a size 8 and I got the shift dress in “Upstream” print. I got the only size 8 in stock in that print. That’s insane. I’m not the only size 8 in line wanting a dress. Didn’t they perceive this as being a problem?
The second big issue was the website. It crashed around 3am Sunday morning from so many people trying to access it. The same thing happened in 2011 for their collaboration with Missoni. I totally understand that sometimes websites just crash. However, since Target has already dealt with this problem in the past shouldn’t they have prepared for this?
The final major problem were the Ebayers. Target really can’t do too much about this except for limiting how much you can buy of a certain thing. There were quite a few people that I know were planning on hoarding whatever they could find (I see you lady with white knee socks and orthopedic shoes!) and then reselling it on Ebay for double or even triple the original price. It’s entrepreneurship at it’s finest, but it really sucks for the rest of us who just want to wear something colorful for the spring and summer months.
I’m still glad I was able to get my shift and maxi dress. I’ve gotten quite a few compliments on the shift that I wore to work yesterday.
